sounds good to me
plus the no sales tax is always nice. Usualy companies dont warrenty motors if you install it. Make sure if they give you instructions on installing it you follow everything so if for some reason its bad (which it shouldnt be cause its a pretty easy motor to build) then you can call them on it. I would go for it

http://www.engnbldr.com/ engnbldr@engnbldr.com I will more than likely go with one of their engines in the spring for my '81, there are only an hour away from me . The owner, Ted, has been very willing to take time for several of my questions and I have heard nothing but good things about them from the Toyota community around Portland...edit: I guess I was wrong, thought that Oregon Engine Rebuilders was also engnbldr. Both in the same area, my bad..

I bought one of their engines and its has 4k or so on it now with no probs. I didn't follow thier warranty procedures so I can't comment on their return policy, but it works foir me right now. It's hard to rebuild a 22re wrong so for the price they are a good choice.,

I've got over 6k on an engine from them. Absolutely love their customer service. This was my first engine replacement so I called them almost daily for a couple of weeks.

I'm going with one of their motors very soon. Problem I'm having is wether to have the built head put on or go stock. I want relaibility with a smidge more grunt, and I don't want to have to run premuim.

With this one, I think regional is best. Shipping heavy things is expensive.

I have been running one of their motors for over a year now with no problems. I got the rv cam, polished head, and oversized valves. I am very happy with the extra boost from the little 22re. I also went with the lce header and 2.25 exhaust. Sounds good, runs good. I would do business with them again.

that is who i will be purchasing my next 22re from, heard nothing but good stuff about em.. i was going to do my own with some engnbldr stuff.. but recently my friend did a new head, tchain, front cover, oil pump and watter pump from him.. and well the oil pump was junk (literaly the his used one tighter tolerances) and a guy who we know that owns a shop has nothing good to say about his headgaskets so ill be looking at oregon engine builders for sure. though i might go visit Cylinder Head Specialties (also known as Motorcrate Engines) and see if a guy who i use to deal with on my chev and ford motors still works there.

It seems people have had good experiences with these guys.... can you just drop one of these motors in, or do you have to swap out parts etc from the old engine?

Well, I have a 22RE built by Ted (Engnbldr) adn installed by his brother at B&M Engineering... I had a T-chain pin let go on me a mere 500 miles into my ordeal, but Ted got me a new one adn said he'd treplace the parts for free if anything was messed up... Now I've got over 5500K on the same motor (had it back in a day, that's good service IMO) and it's been absolutely FLAWLESS. I cannot say enough good things about Engnbldr.
Cheers Dave

Just ordered from them
Just ordered 22RE with steel guide from Oregon Engine Rebuilders, will let the forum know how it goes... so far talking to them on the phone and emailing they have been responsive and pretty straightforward, hope the engine's a good 'un!

I just bought a 4 runner that has a brand new motor from OER and it seemed like a great deal. After installing the engine I primed the oil pump by filling it with oil through the plug hole in the top of the pump and cranking the engine with the coil wire off. I started the engine and ran it for about a minute and noticed it sounded weird so I shut it off and checked the oil filter for oil. It was DRY! I tried and tried to prime it but it wouldnt work so I pulled the oil pump and the gear that slides over the key way on the crank was not even put in the engine, which means the oil pump was unable to spin. I didnt purchase the engine from them and I am wondering what to do? Any ideas?

Ack, that sucks.
All I can offer (haven't installed my engine yet, hoping to do it this week) is that you should call them and talk to them... they seemed like a decent enough group of people when I talked to them to order my engine. Let us know what they say? -- Bass
