Manual Hub Conversion Kits - Taco, 4runner & Tundra

Does your Toyota have ADD and you wish you had Manual Hubs?

We have a manual hub conversion kit that will switch you over.

A little bit about ADD:
Instead of conventional manual lockout hubs at the ends of the front axle, this system uses a shift fork at the front differential to engage and disengage the front drive train when shifting from 2WD to 4WD. With this setup the front axles are locked to the front tire/hub assembly. This setup forces the axles to spin, regardless of transfer case position.
Another problem with ADD arises when using a spring lift on the front of these vehicles. These lifts place a greater angle on the axle (CV) joints and the CV boots. As lift height increases, excessive wear is placed on these components. For this reason, most people can only safely lift these vehicles 2".

The Off Road Solutions manual hub conversion places lockout (manual) hubs at the end of the axles. This allows the axles to be disengaged from the hub and tire assembly, no longer forcing the axles to spin with the tires. This eliminates excessive wear on the CV joints and boots. When the hubs are placed in the lock position, the factory ADD system will provide 4WD just as before. Our kit allows up to 3.5" of lift to be achieved without axle problems. Regardless of suspension lift, it is a nice feature for any late model Toyota, giving the driver more options and reducing wear on the front differential.

That question has been covered and debated to death. The general conensus is no, there is no MPG gain. However, there is much less wear and tear on things like axles and the diff since they do not rotate as much. Also, you can run a drop bracket lift without a diff drop, and not damage the CV axles during normal driving.

Offroad is a different story

Not to rain on the parade here, but what makes the ORS kit different from the Downey Offroad kit that warrants a $240 difference in price?

Pics look to include the exact same parts:

ORS, $1109

Downey Offroad, $865

Sorry I didn't get back with you sooner, I'm not here on the weekends like the guys in back are!

Our kit includes wheel bearings, which MUST be replaced (they cannot be re-used from your vehicle). I believe our kit has some additional seals and hardware but don't quote me on that.

Hope that helps answer the questions.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Also, DeathCougar, that was a great response for explaining the benefits of manual hub conversions, you saved me some typing.

So the splines are different on the outer part of the axle than the ADD? I do not see why you would need new axle shafts and cv joints.

You have to use a manual hub CV. You cannot use the ADD axle, the splines are larger on the ADD cv's.

So wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to get 2 used front axles shafts and 2 front spindle assemblies with manual hubs from the yard and save yourself roughly $700? Also this way it would be a complete bolt in deal.

Yes it would be.

However, manual hubs from the factory never had an ABS option. So if you want to retain your ABS, you still have to do press work.

If you dont care about or dont have ABS, the junkyard swap is perfect.

The junkyard swap is still cheaper even with the presswork tho.

The benefit of our kit is that:
You don't have to find all the parts locally
All the parts are new, and our kit is complete, no going to multiple sources to find all the parts you need.

Our kit comes with instructions and we are here to answer questions if you run into any snags!

Adding to what ORS siad:

How much is your time, fuel, and travel worth? at nearly $4 a gallon it doesn't take long to eat-up a bunch of money.

These kits are normally shipped within 1-2 days of ordering them, come with great instructions, and save a ton of wear and tear on your Axles/Boots/Etc.
