So I am doing an IFS hub swap on my 83 longed pickup. I have swapped the rear to a 87 runner axle at 58", IFS hubs, Taco rotors, V6 calipers, and i trimmed the dust shield instead of adding an eliminator. All was well until I went to put my snap ring on the end of the axle shaft inside my hub. No channel visible and there is some in-out play that allows me to see the channel, but not let a snap ring in. Does anyone know what would cause this? I'm sure that there are a few potential culprits, I'm servicing bearings and seals from the inner axle seal out. I'm going to tear it apart again, I know that much, any input would be great, Thanks.
Also, I searched all of the Toyota and 4x4 forums too, nothing similar brought up.

i have a grip of bolts around that i threaded in to it, them pulled it out as far as possible then clamped it steady with a pair of vise grips with the hub studs between the handles of the vise grips. No change. I pulled the spindle nuts and star washer off and tightened them, tapped my bearings into the seats with the plastic end of a hammer to make sure they slid all of the way in and centered. My thrust washer has a groove in it also. I'm going to take it off this Saturday and sand it smooth again. new bearings might sit different with the thrust washer and a lip could be part of the issue. I have the other sides bearings and seals to pillage as well as a small stash of extra gaskets that trail gear and low range off road manage to drop in my kits from time to time.

When I throw the front end from the Trekker under the 4Runner I will look into this swap...but spacers worked for me in the past, may stick with them but this kit from Front Range

Is pretty cool since it allows you to pull the axle with out completely disassembly of the knuckle etc

So I am ordering some more seals and taking it apart again. Some thing must not have seated correctly, I'm going to take apart the knuckle back to the birfield and start over.

The sky widening kit adds spacers to the back side of the ifs hub to put the rotor back in the factory solid axle location. I dont think they make it anymore.
