Shifting to 4-low with an Auto

I've always put it in neutral when shifting from 4hi to 4lo because sometimes I feel a bit of a jerk when it's still in gear. I looked at the manual because I was bored and it doesn't mention putting it in neutral. It doesn't hurt anything having it in neutral does it? Feels like it'd be less rough on things to me.
thanks for reading,
-Bryan

It doesn't matter if you shift into neutral first. Most of the time I don't even come to a complete stop to shift into 4lo, although, I will slow way down to almost nothing.

You aren't hurting anything if you put it into neutral first, though. The engineers have to make these things so that the general public can't break it by doing those little things.

Ok, I didn't think it should hurt anything, I only do it because it feels a little rough doing it while its still in gear, especially slightly moving
