Roof rack shovel mount

This setup cost me $26 by catching the Yakima parts on
Ebay for $16 and the Quick Fist mounts at West Marine at $10/pair.

My parts kit

What it contains (I substituted button-head screws and stainless washers)

How they mount to the crossbars

Finished with a shovel locked down

I've used the same Quick Fist mounts on my Thule roof basket and they work very well.

I still have some Yakima mounts leftover from my Hella install... Time to order some Quickfists! Never even thought of combining the 2... :slap:

If I had known about the QuickFists, I would have tried them.
A little easier than taking off the wingnuts.

Wow. Thanks for the compliments! I am just trying to give back to the Toyota off-road community so I wanted to share my Rube Goldberg contrivance.

Wing nuts are metal and are very reassuring when locked down but I was just a little down anxious about drilling holes in the shaft of a tool that I would be chopping or digging with. What can I say?

After running the White Rim trail and some others I trust the Quick Fist mounts with items such as the shovel that I have. Here is a pix of my roof basket

If you look at the picture of the original package you'll see that they show a Hi Lift jack held captive by some Quick Fists! That much weight up on the roof in Quick Fists is something that I would test before allowing some major roof damage if the Hi-Lift broke free

I would not trust a Hi-Jack that way, I like the setup I have for holding the jack.

Slee has bomb-proof Hi Lift brackets, with wingnuts too!

Yep, I owned those for several years on my '91 4Runner.
Great product!

Put them on my FJ, but it was up in the basket area, and to hard for this old man to climb up there, even with a ladder.
