Removing Air Conditioning or converting to air compressor???

I've been wondering about this for a while. I never use my ac, in fact I have the belt off. Is there any benefit from removing the unit completely? How much does it all weigh? Is there a way to convert it to an air compressor?

Is there any benefit from removing the unit completely? Not really much, beyond a few pounds saved.

How much does it all weigh? I can't imagine you would be saving more than 10 or 15 lbs.

Is there a way to convert it to an air compressor? Yes, many folks have done it. The trickiest part is figuring out how to keep the system oiled, but those who have done it seem to like it. Search/ask around a bit and I am betting you will find photos and maybe a write up.

the air compressor on my old BMW E30 M3 weighed around 40lbs... all the AC crap removed made the front quite a bit lighter.

I don't think this matters as much on a 4wd truck as it did on a little sports car
