Either should work fine, I run an aluminum one on my '85, but that is mainly because I needed to custom fabricate one myself to fit the deep receiver in my rear bumper and AL was easier to machine and since I planned to leave it installed in one of the 3 receiver tubes all the time, I didn't want to worry about it rusting in place:
