New Mods Custom Hitch and CB installed Pics

I needed a hitch after my lift so this is what I came up with. I didnt like how far the aftermarket hitches hung down under the bumber. Tell me what you think.

A lot of people were doing the mini CB in ashtray mod so I figured Id try a full sized.

Sorry for the crappy pics

I'd like to see some more pics of how the hitch is attached to the frame, cuz what I think I'm seeing scares me ... Might try forcing the camera to use the flash to compensate for the dark subject with very bright background.

And if you can fab up a hitch, why don't you just build a bumper with a receiver built into it?

Look close in the first pic the reciever is welded to the 2 in square tubing which is 1/4 in thick. I welded that to the 3/8 in bumper brackets that are bolted to the frame. It isnt connected to the bumper just to the bumper brackets. The hitch is stout enough to pull my boat, or the 4 wheeler on a trailer.

That's still not a whole lot of weld for all the load being cantilevered out like that. It looks like you have good strength in the horizontal plane, but not so good in the vertical plane. At the minimum, you need a triangular gusset sitting vertically, with the bottom welded to the receiver and the "back" welded to the crosstube.

10-4 i see what you're saying I didnt think of it that way. if I added the gusset it would have to go on the rear of the receiver the front is to close to the bumper

I'd say from what I see on the photos, it's pretty tough, at least tough enough...
