lubricating truck...

is there something i should spray on the underside or any part of my truck to keep it lubricated/ protected? A friend of mine said that i should take wd-40 and spray it all over the bottom of my truck but i was curious as to what others think. I like to drive the the mud quite a bit. thanks -aaron

Tell your friend he's an idiot. Just lube what's supposed to be lubed (u-joints and such) and keep an eye on any rust.

That is what PAINT is for. I keep a can of Krylon handy for post trail touch ups

Aaron you seem like a nice person. Why take this kind of abuse from a so called friend. Take your WD40 and throw it away.

Actually, from our "For what it's worth" department;

I used to hang around with a semi-pro "monster" truck owner/driver. (Thunderbeast) He and the other drivers on the circuit would spray down the undersides of their rigs with kereosene or other lubricants before doing a mud run. Some claimed it made cleanup easier, others claimed that it decreased their run times. And as far as know, they still do it.

Whether or not it made one bit of difference either way, I can't say. But they swore buy the practice. I can't imagine it being required for the kind of stuff we do with our trucks, but at least there is a grain of truth to the story. I don't think your friend is as bad off as the others have made him sound, I just think he heard that somewhere and latched on to it.

Think of it this way. If we start leaving a oil slick in every mud hole we go through because some bone head told us to hose down the undersides of our rigs with WD40, how long until the greenies close down each trail this was done on?

haha good point.. so what exactly are some areas i should watch and what should i use on them? thanks. (or should i not worry about it at all)

My point is that while I can't see any reason to do this on our rigs, especially with the environmental impact, the original posters friend may be misguided, but not an "idiot" or "bone head". It's not like he thought this up all on his own
