Are lockers swappable

Hi just a quick question will probably be answered pretty quickly I recently got my first Toyota it's an 82 and it has a spool in the rear the guy said. It's definitely locked in the rear because it chirps on pavement and the tires are shredded. If there is a spool in there can I switch it out with the front one so the front has the locker and will only be locked in 4wd or are they different? Thanks in advance.

The front and rear diffs can be swapped no problem on '82 axles. Just be careful when you're wheeling because a locked front end is tough on your birfields.

I've met a few folks that swear by having a spool in the front. Personally, I found it atrocious. I like to be able to steer precisely.
