Exclamation HELP... 6" allpro spring collapse!!

i recently performed a SAS swap on my 87' p/u using all-poo off road 6 inch front springs. This was performed in july this year... the springs settled and were doing great, until about 2 weeks ago when i noticed my truck leaning. BEst friend tells me truck is leaning and dog-trotting while driving down the road. So now my passenger side front end sits 3 1/2 inches lower than my right it is horrible, the arch on the spring is gone, i mean i can understand a slight difference of an inch or so... but i need some help. i plan on calling allpro and explaining the problem... but honestly i really don;t want to just get another... what about switching to 44044 rancho springs.. anyone know how much lift these offer, or length.. stiffness??

any help, please

So... what actually happened? Did the shackle collapse and let the spring flatten out or did the spring pack come undone?

If the shackle collapsed, then I think you had the geometry wrong to start with.

This happened to a local buddy when he did his SAS. We were out on his maiden voyage, the right front shackle collapsed to the frame, and of course the spring pack came up as well. I think the end result was that he moved the shackle hanger back about 1/2" and he's never had a problem since.

Yep, check the shackle placement and length. I used an on-line calculator when I firt set mine up to eliminate shackles hitting the frame:

Basic idea is that the arc length of the spring (i.e. length when flattened out) needs to be less than the distance between the frame mounts and the shackle length by enough to ensure the shackle stays off the frame. I know one guy who had his rear springs set up with too short a shackle and on his first wheeling trip, both shackles collapsed against the frame and the springs were ruined. He swears up and down that the springs were bad, but I ran the same brand of springs for years w/o a problem. Only difference was my shackles were set up to accomodate the spring's length change and his were not.

thanks for the help... i am gettin pics right now... but yes the bumbstops ... the spring isn't even completly flexed before the shock bottoms out, i took my dad's bob cat and flexed the front out until at full turn inside the tire rubbed the inner fender... then measured for the shock mounts that i got from sky's ord... then for shock placement... so now the shock bottoms out at full tuck, and made bumpstops out of polyurathane bumpstops for a 98' dodge "my brothers" which i had laying around. So it couldn't possibly be that i over flexed these. And this morning i ran up to Abernethy's shop to get it on the lift, and check my Geometry. The center of the bong is exactly 1/32 farther back than the driver's side when meseured off the front spring hangar, which isn't enough to make any difference i don;t believe. Thanks again for the help...

Need pics of how the springs and front suspension are setup: shackle angle, bumpstop placement, etc.

Yes... There is at least one person here who has had a similar problem. And yes, it sound like you had the position wrong for the passenger side shackle.

Post pics when you can, it'll help us help you.
