I found a PDF on pirate detailing all you ever wanted to know about jerry cans.

Nice write-up you found there Steve.
I have the NATO cans from cheaperthandirt.com and love them. The only downside is the way they rub on my rack. I need to make some sort of cage for them.

My favorite line on the paper was...

"I do not recommend the French cans at all. There are no known spouts or gaskets
available, plus they’re made by the French."

Skyrat, I was wondering when someone was going to notice that little dig on the French!

Awesome write-up.
Just like George I have the NATO Cheaper than dirt cans. My only complaint is that the drain valve or whatever is non-existant so when I use it the gas flows slowly while the air pressure in the can equalizes every once in a while.

Still, having the extra 4-5 gallons is a comfort

Peter, you are the one that told ME about CTD!
The can should have a small flat tube near the top of the opening.
Here is the solution.
Get the Wedco Spout for the can (not the cheesy one sold by CTD) and then the smooth flow of fuel will work well. Bought mine from HERE and even bought two so the shipping would not kill the deal. The trick is to have a spout with the vent and line the vent up with the one in the can. Heck, it is cheap and even comes with the spout mounting hardware.

Good gravy!! That's a super good price for a Wedco nozzle! I need to add those people to my sources list.

Thanks,

Al

By the looks of that can, it looks like the Wedco nozzle I linked to above for my can and also the one Skyrat shows above will fit.

I have the cheaper than dirt cans and the nozzle I listed above with the pic will work. You will be very happy. The seller linked is low cost. I bought two, and the with shipping cost was about the same as one with shipping elsewhere.

I just received 5 new Israeli gas cans from www.the sportsmansguide.com. They were $14.97 ea and are in perfect unissued condition. I just need to sand them and paint them red to make them legal IAW USDOT regulations.

Why? Do you think that someone goes around and enforces this kind of thing?

I've got about 14 jerry cans. Except for the 2 Wedco and 1 brand new civilian MFC from Brigade Quartermasters, all the rest are surplus and olive drab color. I'm not going to spend one minute or one cent to make them red. I got better things to do.

It cost like $10 for shipping on 2 cans, and I have a Wedco spout that came with my Wedco can as well as some flexible spout that I bought at the local auto parts store (G.I. Joes).
