Finally Complete - OME lift, 285s, TJM

Finally finished my rig, temporarily....heh. I was able to go wheeling this weekend for the first time since I lifted it and put on all the other goodies. Heres some updated pictures on everything i've done with my runner so far...I had 2 hella 500's mounted on the TJM earlier, but lost one of them while wheelin so I took the one off untill i get a replacement one.

Anyways, enjoy, let me know what you guys think.

it is, but I was wondering if TJM supplied one. I bought a used TJM for the wife's SR5 and it doesn't have the bracket.

Your right, it doesnt come with one. I think you have to order the kind that is hinged so that its compatable with a winch. For now it works, but i'll be investing in the hinged mount sooner or later...I could even re-drill holes in the plate if i really wanted it to bolt up, its no big deal right now though.

Looks great........good work. I zip tied mine for awhile until I built a bracket for the plate.

Hey, a peice of advice for you on that TJM, loosen the bolts on the bracket, put a hi lift under both side wings and jack it up until both sides touch the truck then tighten the bolts again. when you lower the hi lifts it will sit 1/8"-1/4" away from the body and it will sit level with the lines. It looks a lot nicer that way.

Pat161 and I put a TJM on his 4Runner. Here are a couple pics that give you the general idea. I didn't get any that show the gap that well so you are going to have to believe me on that one. It works on Pats and it worked on mine!

Old bumper off:

New mounts bolted up(you can tighten these immediately):

Lining up the new bumper using Richs' patented dual-hi-lift method (it won't hurt the bumper or truck, I have jacked my front end up enough to change a tire using the TJM sides):

Only real problem is that we forgot to remove a stupid warning sticker about how the airbag won't work that is right on top...half under his grill once we tightened it down...

"Actualy, in my case, i've only noticed it rubbed once when i was fully turning the wheel and backing up. Last night i was offroad and had the rear left tire completely stuffed, i was up on three wheels and my rear right tire was 3ft off the ground and i was able to back out of it without any noticeable rubbing in the back...So for me it hasnt been an issue, i dont see the Body Lift as a need right now. It would be nice, but not neccessary in my case...At least with the OME kit and 285 Destination M/T's....I will say, at full turn, when i get out and look, i have about a CM to spare before the tire would rub."

Intrepid, thanks for the tip, I'll try jacking it up like you said, it makes complete sense now how people get their TJM's so flush with the body.

Jethro, Just to follow up on that, after having the tires for a good month and a half, I can say rubbing still isnt an issue, unless i turn my wheels ALL the way to the left, then my front left tire rubs against my frame just a little...Barely noticeable, however, fully turned to the right, my right tire doesnt touch the frame at all. I think this could be an alligning issue, im gonna get my front end aligned in the next week or two so hopefully after that, my front left will not rub at full turn.

how do you like the feel of the OME suspension? i'm thinking of getting the same gear.

did you need any kind of additional spacer for the front to keep the lift even (front vs. rear)? i've read that the 881's will lift the front 1.5" while the 891's will lift the rear 3"...

I love the setup, the ride comfort really didnt change after installing the stiffer coils so that wasnt an issue...I was affraid it would be very rough/stiff but it felt fairly normal, like the stock ride. As for the height, no i dont believe any front spacers would be neccessary because to me, it seemed like the front was lifted more than the back actualy. For stock 3rd gens, the back usualy seems to have a greater distance between the wheel wells and the tire, compared to the front....So with the OME coils, it seemed like there was less lift in the back (since it was already higher in stock form) than there was in the front. Overall, however, I would say the coils helped even out the front and back...Giving me around 2.5" of lift in the front, and probly closer to 2" in the back. This could be different for others in their cases but for me this is basicly how it ended up (I did take measurements before and after). I remeasured everything once the 285's were put on and I gained another inch of ground clearance I believe, and lost some in the distance between the wheel wells and the tire. In the end, there was definately a noticeable increase in the height of the body as well as the height of the undercarriage.

It was funny cause before my lift, my dog never walked under my Runner, because she would have to crouch to get under there...However, after the lift, she easily walked underneath it without having to get lower, and didnt hit her head at all...It even makes it easier now for me when im underneith it cause I have much more room to work with. There were many areas on this one trail I ride on that I continualy smashed my undercarriage and tow package on but now when I go over the same spots, I not once hit the ground at all. There was a boulder on the side of the trail that most people avoid and have to slowly navigate around because even if u get ur front tire up on it, you end up smashing the side of your frame (where sliders go) when the tire comes down on the other side...However, i was crawling through that area and found myself up on the boulder again, I gave it some gas, and came down on the otherside, no scrapes or dings. You'll be amazed what an extra 3-4" of lift and bigger tires will do. Now time for the locker! Cause on 3 wheels....Lifts dont help too much.

Yep, no rubbing at all, i've thought about getting some offset wheels however, that'd give me some added clearance and a wider looking stance.

Where are you guys goin camping? Im not sure if next weekend will work out for me or not...However, in a few weeks cootees, and I, as well as a few other locals, plan on possibly goin to Shoe Creek (lynchburg)...and in the future - Bobcat, maybe potts?

Fill me in on what you guys plan on doin, i'll keep you updated if your interested in goin with us on some runs with us sometime!
