Disc brake conversion.

I am considering a rear caliper brake upgrade for my 1985 truck. I do not want to lose my brake. I saw a you tube video where a guy used 1985 olds tornado calipers which have an brake incorporated in the caliper. I did not like the cable setup he had for the ebrake though. The routing is not good. If any muddling occurred it could malfunction. I guess my question is, what calipers can be used that have an ebrake in them, or any other suggestion to cure the no ebrake situation. I'm about to put my rear axles back together, and need to make a decision to go back stock or not. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I don`t see what the big draw for rear Disc brakes is ??

I like my Drum Brakes .

Since I have really no interest this other then a Fabrication for someone else .

I looked somewhat about swapping in a rear disc brake Toyota axle other then removing and reinstalling suspension parts .

All Toyota Parts

About as expensive as a Transfer case brake. Depending on where you sourced the rear

It was a viable option That was never done .

Front Range sales a full floater set up that uses rear caliper from a supra that has an e-brake. Having full floating rear axle is choice but spendy, $1300-1600. Don't know of any off the shelf disk conversion that uses the supra rear calipers.

Ok thanks guys. I'm gonna stick to my old trusty drum setup. I know it works, and works well.

I don't care for drum brakes. I've had them fill with mud. Pads wear quicker when water and mud get into drums. Performance varies after offroading due to mud and water. Parking break performance suffers after water and mud.

I got a disc conversion that uses front SA calipers and rotors. But no parking brake. But not a huge loss since half the time it doesn't work. Would like to do a side by side comparison of calipers to see if any other calipers with a parking brake would fit. I just can't pony up for full floater. Prolly use a line lock for stopping on trails.

I could understand if your crawling around in the mud and slop!!

Then you just need to pull the drums and wash things out .If your doing it every day it might be a pain.

Then if you think about it your Caliper with the Emergency Brake just has brake shoes inside the drum part of the rotor .

So it would Fill with mud just like Drum brakes .

I am in the process of repairing the E-Brake on a late eighties Supra

About the worse I will ever see is job sites and my driveway which is a river when it rains.

I would be glad to do this for someone but see no need for me. I have learned to never say never though.

Yeah, your a 100% depending on wheeling conditions disc would make a difference but in others a disc conversion won't make much of a difference. Well for our applications in my opinion.
