Cornfed Diff Drop Install???

OK guys. I got the cornfed 3" spacer kit installed. BUT, I do'nt know where the diff drop spacers go! I've been driving it for a couple of days now and it feels fine. What are they for? And where in the hell do they go? Pictures would be nice if you got em.

Quick explanation:

Pull off the skidplate. Look for the point where front driveshaft meets the axle. That big pumpkin thing is the differential. There are two main bolts holding it on. Big bolts.

Remove those, and replace with the longer ones from your kit. The spacers go in between the TOP of the differential and the mounts (like big washers), thereby lowering the whole assembly the thickness of the spacers.

Hopefully they included some hardware to reinstall your skidplate. Otherwise you're going to have to get creative with reinstalling it.

See this webpage for installation instructions. http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...l#Installation

They are for lessening the angles on your front CV joints. Putting a 3" spacer lift pushes them to the limits of what they can handle, and the idea is backing them off with the diff drop will increase their lifespan.

I just figured that out the hard way. The CVs leaked. I put the diff drop in. Do you think it will fix the leak or am I screwed?

Do a search for "CV Leak" it turns up the following thread with some good advice.

http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.p...hlight=cv+leak

Never happened to me personally. Sorry I don't have any advice. I think getting the diff drop in was a good first step.

If they're leaking, that means the boots are torn.

I wouln't exactly say you're screwed, but yes, they will need replacement, which is not too tough. I would just replace the whole halfshaft axle assembly, I wouldn't mess around with the boots.

There are several writeups on here how to do it.

No, it does not necessarily mean the boots are torn.

Delaware,
Leaking boots after a lift is a common problem with the tacomas and 3rd gen 4runners. The common fix is to put on hose clamps or zip ties around the ends of the boots.

If this is the case, everything is fine, you will not need new CVs or boots or grease. Just put the clamps on and run it. If they are infact torn, then yes, you'll need to replace them.

Yeah, if they are just leaking out from where the clamps are, you might be okay. Depends on how bad it is, and it looks like you caught it in time.

I have a little bit of grease which was coming out, but, it was pretty minor.

Good call on the zip ties. It stopped the leaking. But I wonder if it will hold up when I take it off-road, or jump a curb, or plow someone's mailbox over? Hahaha!!!

Scratch that. Leaking again. Not as bad though. I think I am going to pull the zip ties and clamps off tomm and stretch the boot. My friend said that it may have just of popped out of place when I hit a pothole before I installed the drop spacers. Feedback on this? Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by "stretch the boot", but be careful with it. If you rip it, you could be in some trouble.

You can try the hose clamps, but this is why I said to replace the CV (above).
