carb question
O.K. I know that the stock 22r carb is as good as it gets (minus the EFI)
But, What kinds of mods are required to make it able to run on its side like I've been hearing. You know, vent float bowl, etc.

Dunno myself (but have thought about dual Aisins on my Chev from time to time). Keep an eye on this thread over at Pirate, the answers are bound to show up eventually once Camo posts up some pics.

Look for Attn. Carb Haters. in the trucks/4runners board at Pirate. Tried to send the link here, but it wouldn't work. Soon after starting this thread I found it. Seems like a good cheap mod that might work out pretty well. What I'm concerned with is if it will keep the from flooding out when it bounces around. Had a 84 that was a lil bouncy at times. And it got me in trouble 1 day when I was climbing a pretty nasty hill. Sucks not having 3 feet. In the end, The 84 was wrapped round a tree. Thus bringing on the hand throttle.

Either that or get the Edelbrock Truck Avenger Carb...I know it's a 4bbl....I don't know what kind of setup you'd have to do to make it work for your Runner, but it's possible...the float settings on the TA Carb is built for offroading and extreme angles where a standard carb will flood itself or cut it self off due to lack of fuel....just a suggestion, may not work, but you never know....they can be had for around $350.

a truck avenger carb on a 22r will probabally be way too much carb. Plus, from what I've heard, the stock toyota carb will do just as good. And the 350 that i would've spent on the truck avenger could go twords lots better things like a dual case or some 4.7's. If I ever decide to do a V8 swap. I'll use a TBI setup. So IMO, it's kinda a waste of money to throw that carb on just to make it obsolete in a little while.
I'm looking for cheap/free things I can do to make the Toyota carb better

In addition to setting the float lower, put a hose on the bowl vent tube (that tube directly above the butterflys and barrels) and run it somewhere besides directly down the carb throat. Some people use a catch can, some people run it to the inside of the air cleaner near the back of the filter.
There is probably a way to run it to the tank return line but I haven't heard of anyone doing that yet.

Never thought of that either. But my work does have all sorts of fittings that I could use to fab up a way to splice into it. I think I might try that one. Just have to dig a little at work. We use them as air/grease line fittings.
