Aussie Locker Install

Hey, I just got my aussie locker in the mail. I'm reading through the directions (plus a bunch of directions on the 'net) and I'm trying to figure out what gaskets/seals/shims/washers I should go buy before I tear it apart. Also should I try to reset my pinion and or backlash?

You won't need anything but some black RTV and some brake cleaner. ZUK has some great writeups on installing Aussies on his homepage.

Also if you read where they say use greese to hold the parts together DON'T just work them in with out it. I did mine to the letter and had to pull it apart twice because the greese would not let the locker freewheel and it stay's locked without any give.

What volcom said. check out Gearinstalls.com. You will have to remove the ring gear from the differential in order to get the aussie in where it needs to go and the backlash will need to be checked when you first pull the third member out in order to use the same measuement when reinstalling it. Very specific tools are needed. check gearinstalls.com, ZUK knows what he does, and i used the info there to re-gear my setup.

lal357- I would like to get an aussie for my truck. How well does it work in the front axle(steering)? They have alot of hype on their site, but not many reviews online. I want one for the rear of my 82 but worry about handling on icy roads. Thinking front instead but worried about blowing the birfields.

I love mine in my front IFS. I haven't had any steering issues. As long as I am not giving lots of throttle, seems to unlock when needed.
