ARB front or rear

Guess what I scored today, ARB w/4:88 in a V6 dif. So for you guys with selectibles please share you opinions. I'll have one so place it in the front or the rear, opposite will be an autolocker. Thanks.

id say leave the autolocker out and put the ARB in the rear. or... if u r gonna use the autolocker regardless, put the arb up front. you dont want an autolocker up front most of the time... LOL...

First choice is a second ARB.

last resort: Auto locker rear.

i'd put the arb in the front unless you plan on getting arb for both.

[/color]Well I wasn't planning on getting this ARB the price was just too good to say no. I've got twin sticks in the rear t-case, but that isn't always all that easy to shift out of 4x on windy trails. So some ARB questions:

How quickly does it deactivate? Found answer
How quickly does it activate? Found answer
Once activated is it like a spool, meaning no threshold to spin a tire faster?Found answer

As for snow, theres always 4x so how the auto acts in the rear doesn't bother me. It just seems that having it in the rear would help my steering as constant equal force to both rear tires seems to push me straight in the mud even with the front wheels turned.

The more I search, the more I'm leaning to ARB rear/auto front. One goal of my rig has been to keep it a DD, not that the Locrite is that hard on the drivetrain why not just eliminate all strain? Plus will make it a little more friendly for the wife to drive, but she more or less has learned to drive a 5spd with a Locrite.

I'd go ARB in the front and weld the rear, I'm planning on swapping my detroit to the front and welding the rear of mine eventually. Need to actually get it so I can wheel before I make the final call, as pulling the front 3rd is about my least favorite thing to do.

Not going to weld tires cost to much, I've already got two other autolocker thirds. One Locrite ZUK setup and one Aussie Odie setup (he's right around the corner from you)

because it'll lock up and kick you out everywhere

Because a lot of times, there isn't enough traction to overcome the ratcheting, so it acts spooled and won't turn (or oversteers/drifts like crazy).

In deep snow offroad, lockers are great.

If the truck is regularly driven on the road, and you don't deal with snow very much, and especially if other people are going to drive your truck, I x2 your thought of ARB in the rear. That way, daily driving, it's essentially stock and you never have to worry about the "quirks" putting your wife (or you) in the ditch.

After much thought and input I'm placing it in the rear. Think thats the best configuration to suit my needs.

Totally do the front. Given the understeer from being in 4wd and trying to steer in on very slippery roads with open diffs is enough for me to not want a lunchbox up front. The rear selectable, in case you haven't driven like that, I've found to be quite manageable to a point where i would let most people drive my truck in the snow as long as they kept it in 4wd. I can't say I notice my locker in my 30 mile city commute, the only time its noticeable is in the parking garage.

What are you running in the front for diff/axles? I thought ARB lockers for the rear Toyota axles were different than those for the front? For sure they are different for IFS.

Do you know what the part number of the locker you're getting is?

I have to agree with Matt16, the auto locker in my truck has never caused me any undo stress, and with the selectable in the front the truck will still turn in 4wd.
