i was talking to my friend today and he gave me a # of a guy selling his 4runner.
well....after an hour on the phone it seems i might be selling the 99.
its a 94 loaded front and rear leaf new motor.
chev 350 that dynoed at 370hp
allpro hysteer.
new th350 built by a local hot rod shop able to hanlde 600hp
new dana 60 built by the same shope gaurenteed to 600 hp
new paint
runner has 80k
motor and tranny 4k
everything proff. done

tons of stuff i cant even remeber
he sent me some picks and the thing is huge.
now the problem:
this wont be a daily driver but i want to be able to drive it on trips and such .
i really worried that the 40" irocks are gonna suck to handle .
also i have seen the runner on here before but i cant find the thread
its blue with white flames nad has paddles on the rear in the picks

opini ons

I think that is an example of "too" much IMO. I don't like it. I can't see that going anywhere rockcrawling a well built toy axle rig w/ dual cases could go. Overkill...

That pic with the paddles almost looks fake. Waaaayyyy to much bling for me. I would replace the grill and bumper with an ARB or TJM.

Quite a rig though....

When I saw the 1st pic, I made me think of a lifted Chevy Tahoe...

What type of wheeling are you into. It doesn't appear to have any armor and I am guessing it was set up for mostly sand since there were paddle tires. Make sure you get all the paperwork and contact info for all the builders if you get it.

The only rig I know with Iroks is a trailer queen, but those tires kick butt on deep snow.

For kicks, how much is this going for? Oh, and any idea what type of 350 it has in there? (LT1, LS1, etc.)

Geoff

nate built a hell of a rig. it's a limited production 385 fastburn under the hood. it's built for sand, but i've seen it in the mud as well. it's a badass rig. this is the first i've heard of him selling it... kind of a bummer. i know he had big plans for it.

by the way, he does run those paddles...

I say keep the 99 and leave this one alone, as in don't buy it. I think that it's way over kill unless you are gonna do the same types of wheeling that the builder does. That thing would stink in the rocks, probably do ok most everywhere else, but if I bought it I would be afraid to wheel it as I might dent/scratch it.

How much is he selling it for? I would say if you can pay the amount and not hate yourself when you remove and replace the bumpers and scratch it up then do it. Otherwise, skip it. With some modification (cutting/slight lowering) it could be a pretty badass trail rig.
Does it have a body lift? Removing that and trimming the fenders would put it a lot closer to a good place.

After you see and drive it see if it matches what you want. Driveable on trips given the lift and tires. If you want a crawler it does needs some stuff.

If it has a BL it might have been necessary in order to cram in that motor and tranny. It hasn't been explicitly stated but is it a D60 in the front too, can't be sure from the pics, and what gears/lockers?

alright guys just wanna clarify some things for ya. im the owner of this 4runner.
soo im gonna say first of all it was not built for rocks i built it for snow and sand and it is one of the best mannered rigs ive driven on the street and ive had these iroks up to 110mph on a dyno and they ran smooth as a 31x10.5. it does push its self very well in the sand and can take a jump... from what i can tell most of you guys are into the rocks and ive seen some sweet rigs on here just lookin around.
as it sits right now ground up
39.5 iroks on mickey 15x12 classic II's

'83 toyota front end with a '95 v6 carrier "open" with 4.88's, "bell"fields, fj vented rotors with '90 pickup calipers warn hubs and i know the aisins are stronger but didnt at the time of replacing them although i have never broken anything until the pinion nut came loose and sheared the ring gear
'73 ford dana 60 rear end narrowed 4" 4.88's, detriot locker, 35 spline chromoly axles, 2002 explorer disc brakes.
all-pro tie-rod hysteer not heim-joint
custom made 10" toyota springs with 3" spring hangers, and it does have a body lift as mentioned to clear the v8 at the firewall if it didnt have a v8 it wouldnt have a body lift.
23 spline turbo 4cyl. t-case
th-350 2600 stall, billet planetaries, hughes kelvar frictions and steels, custom made valve body.
custom made 350 to a gm 385 fast-burn crate motor, aluminum heads, full roller, full forged, aluminum radiator, mustang in-tank fuel pump, and its carbuerated with a holley, not good for the rocks at all.
i built it to handle a high speed beating and it does exactly what i built it for, granted im sure its alittle to pretty for most of you but thats what i like and if everyone thought the same it would be boring to see the same stuff all the time.

WTF, if you want a crawler, it will need some other stuff. Like less body, less engine, more gearing and basically a start from scratch.

Cool jeep. It is Toyota in skin only.

370hp on a yota front with bellfields?
I say if you're looking to wheel in sand and snow, the front setup would be ok, but the first time you take it on something that actually challenges the front end you will destroy those axles. Im not even sure if 30 spline Longs would be up to the task of 39.5s and 370hp! Yikes!

If you plan to do your wheeling on the beach (like Pismo) it looks like a lot of fun.

I prefer the trails down here in Texas, and Arkansas. That rig is too big for my taste.
