89 pickup problem??

Hey guys I'm new here and I need some help with my pickup I went through some mud the other day and now my truck is cutting out and sputtring when I step on the gas and the battery/E-brake lights are on. I think the alternator is shot?? If so is there any way to prevent this from happening again?? Like siliconing the new alternator??

Also I want to make a snorkel is there anyone that made on already that has any pics?
Thanks in advance. Matt

well the probem could be that but i wouldnt think so. i think if the altranater was messed up then the battery wouldnt stay charged and then the car wouldnt start. maybe.... you also could have gotten water in your distributer cap. as for the snorkol hopefully 4rnr will chime in because he has a really cool home-made snorkol that apparantly works well. you could wait for him to come in or send him a private message. o and welcome

Might be the brushes in the alternator are gunked up with mud:

Some snorkel ideas:

..

Thanks for the help guys. I replaced the alternator and it still boggs down a little so I got a massair sensor from the junkyard and I'm going to try that.
Any other ideas??
