84 solid axle third member binding nightmare
I have a 1984 toyota Xtra cab, factory solid axle with a 22r, I put a 96 Tacoma axle under the rear, 4.56 gear ratio and a new third member in the front 4.56 as well running 30/9.50r15 tires.....highway travel everything is great, I put about 100 miles in snow crawling, all gentle nothing crazy, even stayed on roads (for the most part) .....I got down to the cleared road which was still icy as all get out, and i popped it into 2wd, hubs still locked, went about 10 miles at 35ish mph- and all of a sudden all tires lock up and put me against the window....I unlocked the hubs and it drove home just fine...at this point I was thinking t case, symptoms: hubs unlocked with the t case in 4h/4L very very tight/hard to move the tcase stick in and out. I try to let the clutch out and it kills my engine with out moving a hair in forward in reverse I can feel something trying to move but it won't let go. With the hubs locked and tcase in 2wd I can move forward or back until the driveline tightens up then it stops moving and dies......here is the wierd part, 3 days later coming off a hill I slid into a snow bank and was stuck said to heck with it and dropped the tcase into 4h it went in smooth and everything turned fine, so I locked in the hubs dropped to 4L and it backed out smooth as butter, so I go poking down the road in 4h at about 10 maybe 15 mph, windows down no bad sounds, no clunking or popping, I go about 200 yards MAX probably closer to 120 on a very icy road and suddenly my tires all lock up again, I jump out and look under my truck and engine oil which had leaked onto the third member housing is boiling!!!! Touching it on the drivers side blistered my hand but the passenger side of the third member is barely warm....fluid is full, little burnt now though.....any suggestions are very appreciated
