VSC SKID and ABS Light

Hi Guys:

OK, I replaced the rear brakes on my 03 Sequoia. When pressing the pistons back into the caliper, I did NOT bleed them at the caliper as I was supposed to do. I only opened up the reservoir at the master cylinder.

I have learned the error of my ways since then and know I should bleed at the caliper when pressing the pistons back in.

The problem now is the lights are still on and ABS is definitely not working.

I am thinking I should bleed the back brakes to give it a try and reset the ABS sensor.
I am looking for advice. I am sure pushing the fluid back up from the calipers to the ABS device caused this problem. My thinking was to push the fluid the other way.

Thanks , Matt

it is also possible that you damaged an ABS sensor wire, which happened to my Runner today during a suspension upgrade. Consider that if the brake bleeding doesn't resolve your isse. I'm going to my Runner it in to the dealer and try to get it repaired under warranty.

ABS and VSC lights 2003 Sequoia

I bled the brakes and the ABS light is still on and the VSC is disabled (lights on). I checked the wires (ABS ) one time already, it was late when I bled brakes and I did not check them again.

Now I am wondering what to do if the wires are OK? I do not know if there is a way to reset the ABS sensors.

ANy help would be appreciated.

ALso, can someone tell me how to obtain a factory service manual for this car (2003 Seqouia)?

well, you can make sure all abs wires are connected and clean. and as far as reseting it, you can just disconnect the battery and reconnect it...might need a second opinion on that guys...not sure if that messes with newer computers or not.

You can go to a local dealer and they should have a manual for it, although it might be kind of expensive. also try ebay they might have one on there.

same same

Guys,

I have checked the abs connections at the calipers. I have reset (negative terminal off battery overnight) and still have the problem.

Any further thoughts on this? Is it possible to bleed the ABS lines only? Or take the sensors off at the calipers and do some checking there?

Guys when you change the brakes on any vehicle equipped with abs you must open the bleed valve at the caliper before you compress it or you can damage the valves in the abs motor unit. There is a very high probability that this is what happened to your brakes. These valves are pressure sensitive and when you compressed the caliper well you put excessive pressure back on those valves.

OK, Thank you .

I figure that is what I probably did. I did not know that about ABS. I have always changed brakes one way b/c no one has told me. I am taking in to my Toyota guys in a few weeks. I have been living with since the summer (mid summer) so I guess a few more weeks is OK. I am sure it is gonna cost an arm anda leg at the dealer (who is closer).

Now I know. I wonder how many brake changes (by taking it in) it would have taken to cost what it is gonna cost to replace the ABS controller.
