Factory Stereo Replacement? '00 UZJ100
Hello and Happy Holidays!
I just bought a 2000 Cruiser and the previous owner replaced the factory Yota stereo with some funky Clarion unit. It works okay I guess but I don't really care for it.
Ideally, I'd like to replace the Clarion with a factory Toyota stereo that's out of a 2000-2002 Cruiser. Plan B is to find something out of a newer vehicle that'll fit into the opening.
Anyone have any suggestions? Will something out of a 2004, 2005, etc. work?
TIA!

white4runner - you have the non-nav stereo, right?
ghostbuster - you have a nav-stereo?
the non-NAV units can be swapped for aftermarket (in your case) and there are many aftermarket that are superior to the factory unit, even the mark levinson or whatever it is - for example a good aftermarket NAV unit can be upgraded with computer vs an expensive DVD that doesn't update. you could also try ih8mud's 100-series section to see if anyones got an old one after they upgraded from factory unit.
if you have a NAV stereo, you're SOL for replacement and pretty much have to use another NAV unit from same years before the "facelift" in 2003. i may be wrong on this, but for sure you cannot put aftermarket in there due to integrated HVAC controls. according to crutchfield, there is also no device to upgrade to bluetooth on the NAV stereo with disc changer.
overall, replacing factory speakers with something better goes a long way for sound quality. i did my fronts in my 2002 with infinity components and it's already superior than it was. i wish i had non-nav so I could upgrade to a nice unit that can take bluetooth or at least an aux input.
