Looking at getting a 97 T-100 4WD SR5 Xcab 3.4l auto etc.

190,509 MILES!

So here's the questions:
With this high mileage, what should I look for? What tends to wear out?
Front suspension: t-bars or struts? I though all Yotas changed to struts in 96, but are the T's the exception?
Steering: rack n pinion or pusharm?
Tires: stock lift, largest size is 31" correct?

My 97 doesn't have struts. Thank goodness.

definitely check the front end suspension and steering components. The idler arm, ball joints, and tie rod ends should have been replaced by 190,000 miles. If not, then they probably need it. Front wheel bearings should have been replaced.
T100 4x4's have shocks up front and torsion bars as springs. Tacomas and Tundras have struts and rack and pinions up front.
Stock tire size is 265/75/R16. I think that equates to 31.6"- almost 32" tall. With a 4 inch Superlift you can fit 33's with some rubbing at full turn.
Timing belt should have been done several times, but the engine is non-interference so the pistons won't crush the valves if the timing belt breaks.

Check to see if the head gasket recall was performed. If not, thats a great time to get the timing belt, water pump, cam seals and stuff changed out for minimal additional cost.

I bought a 95 T100 almost two years ago. I was woundering if there was a (free) way to check these. How do I know if the previous owner had a recall performed? Can I still get recalls fixed on a 10yr old truck?

The recall is good forever. Call any dealer and give them the vin number, they should be able to tell you if the work has been done. When I bought my 96 T 2 years ago, I found out the recall had not been performed. It might be quicker if you contact the dealer where the truck was originally sold, if you know that info. Otherwise, you can register with Toyota as the new owner and they will keep you posted (although I have never received anything after I registered other then a confirmation that I registered). Since they dont make the T anymore, new recalls are unlikely, unless we can convince them that the steering linkage rod is defective and needs a recall, which it apparently does.
