So my story begins with me purchasing an 03 tundra 4x4 and on my way home from buying it the truck suddenly dies 200 miles down the road. I call the guy back, naturally tells me to "f" off blah blah blah, i get the truck back to my house and start digging into the engine. One of the piston arms shattered inside and bent every valve in that cylinder but all others were fine and the timing never jumped, few months later i drop a used engine in it after replacing all the timing and water pump and other seals. So i get it all together and when i try to start the truck the starter just keeps going even when the key is in a relaxed state or "on" position. So i bypass the ignition by taking out the relay and hooking a switch to the two copper terminals, and when i have the key in the "on" position and the. Hit the switch to the starter relay the truck started! But i had yet another problem, when i tried to get into drive or reverse or any gear no response from the tranny and the fluid looks fine and doesn't smell burnt. So after explaing my story to my friends and some mechanics they say it could be the security or antitheft keeping it from moving, but it didnt seem like that kind of technology would be in an 03 tundra. The other answer might be that when the truck shut down originally it put the computer into protection mode and i need to take it to a dealer and have them reset it or something. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

That's definatly an unfortunate story. That's bad about the engine failure on vehicle just purchased. I'm not sure exactly but I would think there should be some laws on that happening to a vehicle that was just purchased having catastrophic failures like that. Awfully sad.

Are you still starting the engine by bypassing the starting system components..?

Repair back to factory operation it may very well be security related.

It is very possible the engine failure shocked certain electrical components in the vehicle.

Checked for blown fuses..?

Transmission mode selector switch fault..?

Electrical connections clean and tight..?

Do we have any trouble codes/data..?

Engine connected to the transmission VIA flex plate to tourqe converter..?

Crank Position Sensor fault..?

Re-check all work after engine replacement.

An ECM computer fault is possible. Re-program/re-learn may be necessary.

The engine starts and runs normally we just have no transmission operation..?
