1979 FJ40 Question...
Not sure if I'm posting this in the right section, sorry.
A friend of mine works at a Toyota dealer and they just got in a '79 FJ40. Claims it has been restored and is in really really nice shape. Says it can be bought for $17K and he says this is a great deal. Says it has a Chevy smallblock motor in it! Anyone have any thoughts on if this is a deal or not? Thanks, Mike |

Personally, for 17K I would want the toy motor in it, or maybe a Toy Diesel out of some JDM rig...but either way I dont want no Chevy motor in there.
As posted elsewhere by an unnamed source - I think Toyota makes a better product than GM, period. Putting a Meullet motor in your Yota makes it less worthy, so its cheap and easy, so are fat girls. Just a thought.

If it's not a Toyota engine in there, it's not "restored"
I'd see if they will sell it cheaper because it doesn't have the "original" engine. |

I will start with this depending on what other mods have been done to it, the price seams a little high. Without the 2F engine in it the cruiser is not really restored. The average price of a "bastardized" 40 is around 5,000 to 12,000 depending on the mods you have to remember chevy parts are cheap thats why people started puting them in cruisers in the first place. If I were you I would do my homework on this one. I agree on what Flyinglow says about the many v8 hack jobs.
