I Drove the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. Have Any Questions About It?

Howdy, everyone. My name is Derek Shiekhi. Growing up, I was raised on Cressidas and 4Runners. Now I'm a writer for a variety of Internet Brands sites and part of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which recently held its annual Texas Truck Rodeo. Over the course of two days, my fellow journalists and I drove vehicles from a field of more than 70 entries. Crossover, SUV, and pickup manufacturers showed up at the Longhorn River Ranch in Dripping Springs to compete for several titles, including the most coveted: “Truck of Texas.”

Toyota was there with multiple vehicles, including the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro. I was lucky enough to get a few minutes to drive it both on- and off-road (look for my review on CarBlog.com soon) - and see it crowned the top midsize truck of the event.

If you have any questions about what it’s like to drive the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, feel free to send them my way in this thread.

We've heard it's underpowered and shifts at odd times. Did you find this to be true?

Of course we hope not, but do appreciate more feedback. Thanks!

During the few minutes I drove it on the road, it seemed well powered. Really seemed to come alive past 3K rpm. Didn't notice odd shifts. Perhaps I would have noticed them if I would've had more time behind the wheel.

There was odd shifting with the 2016's and a TSB was put out in July. They reflash the transmission and it's supposed to fix it. I have a 2016 TRD Sport that is almost ready for its first free service.

My one question would be how much was it on the door sticker? I see it has better wheels, a skid plate and they did away with the dumb lower plastic valence in front. What's included in the TRD Pro package besides special wheels and grill?

The one I tested had a sticker price of $45K+. Other equipment on the TRD Pro includes:
- A TRD Pro cat-back exhaust
- A "TRD-tuned off-road suspension with 2.5-in. FOX Internal Bypass coil-overs and rear remote reservoir shocks"
- A standard V6 tow package
- "Projector-beam headlights with black sport bezels and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), Rigid Industries® LED fog lights, and taillights with black sport bezels"

I went here for the info: http://www.toyota.com/tacoma/feature...7543/7582/7598

Happy New Year!
