Talking my bruder excavator rc conversion!

1/16th bruder toy excavator conversion.
bruder is well known for their expensive scale toys.
no company touches them in detail.

plan is to make simulated screw drive hydraulic cylinders, add an electrical slip ring to allow full 360 degree rotation, servo's driving the tracks, servo's working the boom.
6 ch tx/rx.

slow build!

a very important part....slip ring!

quick vid of the 360 action.

more to come soon....hopefully!

Dude, that's awesome! Recently I was wondering if it was possible to make an RC out of this really beat up tonka dump truck I've got. I figured there is some sort of hydraulic-device or similar that would dump the bed. Screw drive cylinders - makes so much sense. Look forward to seeing results.

got a few supplies today!

1/4 inch masonary bits to serve as the screw!

made the rod and barrel for the bucket cylinder tonight aswell.
when im done the cylinder will stroke, and the rotating screw inside will be hidden.
others build the similuated ram differently.
the barrel of the cylinder turns.
mine wont....hopefully.

the bad news, ive injured myself, and the capasitor on my lathe went out.
so no more parts making for me!

the rotation switch went out on my lathe, due to the hot/ground contact.
so ive managed to figure out how to hotwire the lathe to run in right hand rotation only.

the first cylinder was just a mockup to test the concept, now im building the actual cylinder.
bigger is better!

its late, ill call it a night!
the old barrel fits inside the new barrel.
tomorrow ill make a new rod.

this barrel has a shoulder on the top which serves as a stop for the rod.
when the rod reaches full stroke it will bottom out in the barrel.
this will ensure my bit doesnt fully unscrew from the rod.

boring the barrel pics!

heres what i think will be the final design.
ive added a larger piston to the rear of the rod, this will serve as a beffy place to insert the set screws, also keep the ram straight,so i wont have the cylinder when extended look bent and sloppy.
the tolerences are tight, with no seals installed,if i put my finger over the rear hole and pull the ram out....makes a nice vacume!
i was even thinking about installing orings, but i go that route ill need to vent the ram.

I know this is digging up a really old thread, but im curious if anything ever happend with this RC build. I have been recently exploring the possibility of converting one of these Bruder Excavators, but it seems all the threads start the process, but never complete it. You look like you were spending quite a bit of time and effort on one of the major parts of the conversion and doing a great job at it. A peak at the finished project would be awsome.
