So i am gonna have to at least have to drain the tank get and get a battery and oil change to then try starting it. After that will prob need spark plugs wires and tires then go from there but first i need to find transport from Englewood, Tennessee to me in spartanburg sc

There is a drain plug in the tank. I suggest not removing the plug. There is usually a build up around the threads on the drain bolt and when you remove the bolt from the tank, it tends to strip the threads and leak. I have had 2 of the 4 tanks that I drained to leak around the threads. From now on I pull the tank and give it a good cleaning. If it has a lot of build up in the tank, it will look like rust. I have cleaned many tanks and there is no pitting or signs of rust in the tank when I got done.
If there is any rust to the tank, it will be on top of the tank. The pick ups get mud slung on top of the tank and that is where you can get some rust holes in the tank. 4Runners tanks tend to be better protected and don't have rust holes on the top of the tank. Sounds like this truck is rust free so you probably wont have any problems on top of the tank;
When I do any tank work, I remove the bolts on the passenger side and loosen the bolts on the drivers side and tilt the bed. Trying to drop the tank is difficult as there is not much slack in the fuel lines.
If it was me, I would grab a U-haul dolly and tow it home. Sounds like you got a good deal on it. I would start with rebuilding the front end, shocks, fluids, tune up, shocks, brakes,and then start working on the creature comforts such as the ventilation system, giving it a good cleaning such as the carpet. It can take quite a bit of effort to get one back into shape but you have an easy truck to work on. Looking forward to seeing you getting it back on the road.

terrys87 ty for the tip!! Iim not sure what to do lol. I have replaced 2 fuel tanks so far one on a Honda crx and the other on a current daily driver my 89 civic si and i said i wouldn't do another ever. So what im now thinking is siphon the gas tank and see with sum a siphon pump hopping there's not anti siphon tec on this year of a truck. do you think that would be ok ? If i see alot of evident rust in tank then ill have to do what you said.

o ps as far as a u-haul dolly goes my only current transport is a 89 civic si so that's a no. So far best offer i have gotten is $250 for a guy on Craigslist . my nabor can do it aswell may be cheaper since she wants to visit family like 45 min away but that's only if i can work out the pickup times to be in her favor not sure what they would charge but less than 250 and even 250 seems fair round trip would be close to 500 miles

I put American racing 901s on my Toyota, they come in 17.5 x 8.5 though, so unless you can clear big tires there won't be a lot of sidewall. What kind of look are you going for? 5 spoke mags in aluminum would look cool. I'm sure you could find some nice 15x8s on craigs. Bolt pattern is 5x114.3 for all years of the pre taco 2wd? But you can get away with 5x4.5s and that gives you options for used jeep tires that people sell for cheap.

Last time I rented a dolly, about 6 years ago they were only $20/day. You can also rent one of their smaller trucks or pick ups for about $20/day plus mileage. So rent truck and trailer. At any rate you probably got a deal. If the gas tank was full when parked the gas might not be bad because no oxygen got to it. I can't tell if it needs body work but several people on here have taken a faded red truck and polished it back to beautiful. The red is single stage paint so if you polish off the dead top layer it will come back.

You got a steal. I'd look for 15" wheels for more truck tire options.

i ended up going to the pull it yard that day and boy was it went threw lol . The only thing i got was sum carpet for the cab gonna Clean it up haven't installed it yet because need to clean it as well as i need ether a new bench seat or id prefer bucket seats that i i wouldn't have to modify. been looking alot on the forums and such seems i can use mustang rims ford ranger jeep rims and a few others. as for the gas it looked so nasty i wouldn't even put it in a cheap push lawn mower !
yes this was a nightmare to deal with the paperwork before i bid i asked a bought it and they stated never had a problem for 30 years guess who got to be the lucky guy!!!! but on a positive note that police chief was i guess voted out any way and new one says any he sells will just have a title rather than a seized vehicle paperwork sice he had to deal with me for 2 months dealing with this to correct it.
