91 2wd Pickup Mid Travel IFS Update
Just thought I would post some of the progress I have made on my daily driver's latest remodel. I was running Fabtech UCA's with stock lowers and SAW torsions in front and AAL in rear. I am currently in the process of installing Obsessed Motorsports 3" lift spindles in front and 2" greasable shackles from Trailgear in the rear, along with Bilstein 5125's all the way around and a few more goodies. Everything said and done I will pull almost 7" of travel in front and 9.5" in the rear. I will update as progress is made. Enjoy.

I thought I would document my experiences since I have never seen anyone with this combination before. Nice and simple is definitely what I am going for on this one. Moving up to college in a year, 700 miles up north. Gotta have a reliable truck right? Can't wait till I get her back on the road!

not to detour you from the simpleness and since it appears you can fabricate, have you thought about removing your strut rods and making something new that triangulates the lowers that gets rid of there limitations?
also removing your swaybar? when i did that it made my truck ride a lot smoother but obviously rolled more in corners.

I would love to triangulate my lowers, but my real limitations seem to be the balljoints. Mainly the upper balljoint with the lift spindles. I'm already pushing it where I stand right now. I actually just added that sway bar up front to see if I can make it work. I will be fabbing up some sway bar disconnects front and rear though so the minute I hit dirt I can take advantage of full travel. Sway bars are just SO nice on the road, much safer too. Picking up the shocks today so we will see if I have any binding issues with my setup.
The only thing I am pretty bummed about is that I gotta run new brakelines from the calipers to the brakeline extensions. That should be alot of fun considering I have no experience flaring or bending brakelines. Any suggestions out there?

Well I bought extended brake lines from Trailgear and installed them front and rear. The problem is the short hard line that runs from the caliper to the extended brake line connection. This small 6" stretch of brake line rubs on the LCA at full turn. The only visible fix I can think of is rerouting the hard line. I picked up all the parts today, we'll see what happens...

Ok grabbed the shocks today. Bilstein 5125 (BE5-6251-H5 up front and BE5-A463-H6 in the rear). Installed the rear and mocked up the front. Will burn the front shock towers in permanently in the morning.

Wow, I didn't know that 89-95 2WD Toyota pickups came with rear sway bars. I guess I assumed all early generation leaf sprung Toyotas didn't since my 86 4runner didn't. I should look into getting one of those, it'll help while prerunning

Rear sway bar is from Addco but it doesn't fit without some customization of the brackets they supply.... lame. Hugs corners pretty friggin great for a truck on the street! I drive a little too fast on the street so I installed it as insurance to keep all 4 tires on the pavement in an emergency. Now I just need to fab up some sway bar disconnects so once I hit dirt I can flex it all out haha.
I never have thought about ZUK coils in the rear, I have seen it done all over the internet but seems like a half attempted fix to me. That's just my $0.02 though. I like to build things traditionally and stronger than needed so I don't have to rip it apart and do it again a few years down the road. Besides with the new Bilstein's the rear should ride pretty nice!

So I finished up the lift yesterday and the truck rides GREAT. Love the new Bilstein's they ride very nice. Here's a couple picks of the progress. Will post more once I get my truck back from the alignment shop. Install went smoothly for the most part.

well since one of the most respected men in the offroad world uses them DAILY, as well as THOUSANDS of other guys.
i'm sure you'd be fine..but you can deal with the rough AAL ride instead of the plush ride of the ZUK coils. just my $.02

I double checked all the measurements during the mock up and the only way to take advantage of full articulation in the front I needed 1.5" more travel than the stock shock provided. This must have been the mixture of lower profile bump stops, and the new geometry the mixture of the two lifts created. So to answer your question I could have just common sensed it like you apparently would have done, and ordered stock shocks that limit my down travel, but I decided to do it right and not prematurely blow my new Bilstein's.
I did remove the front sway bar originally after installing the fabtech lift but hated the ride. I always wanted to puke on long winding roads. So I installed an Addco sway bar up front and there are no clearance issues so I run it problem free. The rear sway bar is disconnected right now and it sways like crazy in the back around turns on the street. Handles so much cleaner/ safer with the rear sway bar connected. I just ordered quick disconnects from 4crawler so I can disconnect in the rear to achieve full articulation off road.
Any more common sense you can apply to my project with no legitimate evidence to back up your claims or issues with how I spend MY money? Because you just sound like a prick to me?

You still don't get it.
Obsessed Motorsports' spindles modify the knuckle, re-locating the spindle down, yet leave the upper and lower ball joints with the same geometry as the stock knuckles., just like similar 2wd lift spindles work on Chevy's and such. Therefore, they do not require any change in ball joints, torsion bars, etc. since the only thing that's changed is where the stub sticks out from the knuckle. They "simply" move the spindle lower on the knuckle thus add lift.
The fabtech 3.5" 2wd kit comes with procomp shocks spec'd for 0-2" lift, and they dont over-extend the shocks. So unless you're saying you bought a used kit and were trying to put 'stock' (Gabriel, Monroe or whatever) shocks on and not the shocks fabtech supplied, and found stock shocks don't work I'm still confused.
Oh, and then you say you have new Bilsteins... so I'm thinking you decided to buy them and they were too long so you are fabbing mounts so you can use them.
In a nutshell, there is no reason to relocate the upper mount for the shocks unless the shocks you bought are too long. That's understandable if you bought a 3.5" lift and then bought Bilsteins for that, and didn't consider the lift you bought didn't require longer shocks.
As for sounding like a prick to you, you think this is Pirate4x4?

this isnt pirate 4x4 and he is not going to kill a bus load of nuns with this setup, so chill out with your stock bolt on only obsession.
