1990 2wd yota LIFT!
Ok so here is the deal! I got this broken down truck(still dont know whats wrong with it but its got to do with the head or block)and I'm going to getting running soon i hope.
Specs/condition:
1990 22r w/carb
regular cab and bed(i think)
4 speed manual trans
very well kept exterior no dents
will need some paint(but no rust)
interior is ok
So i was thinking maybe when its running and all i would like to lift it, about 3" or so. Nothing to be going off-road'n or crawling rocks just so it would sit higher look better and have a bit more hauling use.
I stared to look around the threads and found some good info, still a bit confused on what i actually would need to undergo the lift myself though. I did see arguing from the 4x4 and the 2wd guys.
Here is where i need some input, from all the lift options i found i didn't find any that fit my budget. Is it worth the time and money to lift this truck, or should i get it running and sell it to get me a 4x4? Is there a poor man's lift i could do, that wouldn't jeopardize performance?

Probably the cheapest way to go would be to install an "add-a-leaf" spring into the rear leaf springs and crank up your torsion bars. This should gain you 1-2".
FYI, many folks on this forum and elsewhere do not recommend the "crank up your torsion bar" lift - something about having too much tension on the bar resulting in poor handling?
You can also find aftermarket torsion bars that are made to accept more tension, and hence, more lift.

i know this thread is old but could u try to use a 4x4 spindle ditch the torsion bars and get coild overs? cut the cross member out and move the mounting points in and build longer lower a arms? then flip the leafs on top the rear end then do a 2" body lift?
