The Type 99 was all busted up when I found it at a gun show. My uncle had and old stock lying around so we did a little modification and stuck 'er in. I don't have guns just to lie around, and collect dust. My uncle found C&H 7.7mm dies and used a .30-30 shell holder so he reloads for me. It shoots with excessive recoil (kicks like a mule), because it's the short model.
The funny thing about this 99 is that it was developed for special military units, and sniping. I don't know how they sniped anything with this little monster.

One of the guys on the Practical machinist board made this .50cal BMG:
He said the total cost was about $500 when it was all said and done, which includes proper heat treatment. I start a Machine tool technology program on Aug. 23, and I'm stoked about the possibilities.

Lots of aftermarket parts to mod these. I bought the 2 Springfields plain stock and customized both.

the only problem with them was..the older war issued ones had a left hand twist so it worked very hard against your gripand it tried to rip itself out of your hands. Most .45s ( and 10mm, 9mm, and.40s) can trace their lines back down to the 1911 and the Browning Hi-Power...both are tops in my books. Hell, even my .45 H&K USP (Mk 23) has a lot of what the 1911 put in place as what is ideal for a handgun.
I hate 9mm ( worthless round IMHO) so it warms my heart to see someone else love the power and age of the 1911

Weapons of choice are my elbows and knees after that would be hands and feet, then many other tech. that i have learned to hurt, mame or kill some one. I like guns and the ones i have seen on here are nice but only for sport or collection, don't get me wrong when some one pulls a gun on me and is standing more than five feet away, I am dead and the only defense is a bigger better gun. But I hate to say it but if we are talking about what is better? it takes skill to shoot a gun accurately, i know cause i can't and wish i could. But to be able to take someones life or not with your own body that is real skill.
But I collect swords, knifes, axes, bladed weapons of any sort.
However that said I also would like to have a good gun but know diddly squat about them except the basics.
Gosh I just realized that i probably upset a bunch of people with a bunch of guns .
GUNS ROCK !!!

SDPD just allowed officers to carry 1911s on duty as long as they took a course and qualified with them. My roommate used to be a die-hard Kimber fan but completely turned around after seeing their performance in consistent hardcore usage. He has a Thunder Ranch special now.
Kimber's are good for shooting every now and then but just so you know - a good amount of SDPD cops that entrust their lives with a 1911 as their on-duty primary weapon do not use the Kimbers.
