Desperate for a shop or individual to do a 3.4 swap in Nashville, TN or surrounding
After much thought, I've decided that the 3.4 swap is what I'm going to do to get my 4runner back on the road. I thought about just dropping a fresh 22re in, but that seems like a waste of money as my end goal is a 3.4 swap.
I don't think that just any shop can do this, so I come here for recommendations.
Ideally, I would buy a donor vehicle.
I'd like the motor rebuilt so that I can add boost in the future.
I'd like a manual transmission, which I guess I could get from Marlin.
I'll do whatever I can to help if I can.
Also, does anybody who's done the swap have a rough total cost?
Would $7000 cover what I want?
I really want to drive my truck again.

I prefer a complete donor vehicle as there is so much more than the motor needed in a 3.4 swap. I've found them or let the customer find them, either way.
Email me and we can talk specifics.

I was discussing this with my parents and my wife on the way to my dad's 60th birthday dinner tonight and she's on board with it. I told them that I (and many others) think very highly of your work and that experience was important in doing this swap.
The wife is on board, so it's just a matter of logistics and such now.
I'll figure out all the things I need to ask you and send you a PM soon.
Thanks Brian.

Sounds good. Just email me at

And we'll get it worked out. Got 3 of mine going and my buddy Jon's currently but my 95 should be done in a couple weeks.

Now my biggest question is if my Dad's FJ80 can haul two 4runners down to you.
I guess I could pull the 22re and tranny from mine to reduce the weight.

That's fine. I've been driving my work truck for the past 2 months, so I'm not in a huge hurry. It will give us time to put away some more cash anyway.

Just let me know when you are ready.

$2500 base labor
$500 Toyota parts for motor freshen up - timing belt etc
Cost of donor vehicle
Fluids, extra OEM parts, etc
I'd say $4000 is about the minimum you'll spend
