So today, to match the rear I just set up, I picked up a used 4.56 front. $200 got me the complete diff, which I wasn't expecting. I was thinking I would end up having to swap my long side axle tube over with my actuator. This diff came complete, axle to axle, so I'm very pleased. This will allow me to keep my current 4.10 diff as a spare, along with its actuator and parts.

I'll pull it apart, and put new seals into it and reseal the front cover.

I'm running 265/75r16 Duratracs, which is about a 32 inch tire. I'm gearing up because eventually I want to run 33's, and I had a great opportunity to do it cheap. I priced it out if I had done it by buying all the parts off Randy's ring and pinion or east coast gear supply, and it would have been in the range of $800-$1000. All said and done, I'm going to be referred front and rear for about $250, once I go through this front diff and reseal it.

So since I'm already running the plugs and fuel pump, I'll keep the plugs as a spare set, and I'm trading the fuel pump to my brother for a new set of rear shackles and some centering pins.

Got the injector installed today. Because I already installed the fuel pump back in October, the install was very easy. The most difficult portion was the wiring. There isn't a lot of slack in the harness right where it plugs into the ECM, but I was able to manage. Otherwise, the install was very straight forward. The injector is very well built, and fits onto the charger very well. The supply line is also very well built and the instructions were very straight forward.

The only thing I can say to sum this up is that this is the way they meant for these trucks to run with the charger. I really wish I would have done this with the install of the charger.

How is it running with that installed? Heard it should run very good, no more LEAN conditions.

It runs great. Much bett than before, but I think it still needs some time to figure itself out. I unplugged the EFI fuse so it has to go through it's relearn process which usually takes about 400-500 miles. Since I had to put the truck back into daily driver duties with my 2wd badly in need of a timing chain, that won't take very long.

PTR29-89020. That's the part number for my supercharger kit.

Ya I love the scangauge. Keeps me in line, and helps remind me that gas for this pig is $3.75 a gallon.

And no, no burnouts. Them tires is expensive, and so is fuel lol.

Ya it's a little bit of overkill since I've also got the SDORI brass idler arm bushings, but I think it helps.

Well, during the summer I was seeing 18-19, but my truck hates the winter fuel. I've been getting between 14-16 on winter fuel, but usually on the 14 side of that.

I am going to assume that the 7th injector is probably going to cut those numbers down though. But that just falls right into the old saying of, "If you wanna play, you gotta pay."

The gears are in. Not an incredibly difficult task, so I only took one picture actually. The front diff I picked up looked great, so I slapped new seals in and threw it all together.

New is on the left, old on the right.

Rear was really straight forward. Just a simple in and out. Only took about an hour for the whole thing. There ya go. New gears felt fine, but I think it's gonna take some getting used to the speedo being off. I have the scan guage set up to read me the corrected speed, so once I can just get used to where the guage is compared to how fast I actually am going, I'll be fine.

Ya actually the muddy looking one on the top in the previous post is a 4.10. I'm quite a ways from West Virginia so I'm sure shipping would be pretty expensive, but if you really want, I could get you a shipping quote. $100 sound fair? Pm me your zip code.

Edit- I just did a little figuring, and I think it might be easier and cheaper for you to find one local. UPS quoted around $90 to ship a front diff (guessing it weighs about 75 lbs give or take) from me to you. Have a look around local, and if you can't find one, let me know.

To keep your options open, you could look for a 4.10 front diff from any 86-95 pickup or 4Runner. Even if you can only find them for manual hub trucks, you can still swap the long side tubes.

So, today I did a little bit of researching with the help of my brother, 98_3RZ. He had looked up all the part numbers for the speedometer drive gears for our trucks. Fortunately for him, his 2000 is a VSS truck, so he just needs a yellow box speedo calibrator. My truck, not so easy, with the speedometer cable. So, being the stingy guy that I am, it bothered me that the speedo was off. I was able to get by with just the tires, since I was only 3% slow. The regear put the speedometer much further off. 4.56 gears are 10% lower than my stock 4.10's. So, with my tires being 3% over stock. That puts my speedometer 7% fast. At 55 mph, my speedometer reads about 60-62 mph.

Now, as I said in the beginning, my brother and I threw around the idea of changing the speedometer drive gear. I was under the impression that there was one gear tooth count. My brother checked with the parts department at his dealership. He found that there are actually 5 different gears for the speedometer drive assembly, ranging from 28 teeth, up to 33 teeth. On my lunch break, I removed the speedometer drive assembly from the transfer case output housing and checked the number of teeth. My truck is equipped with a 30 tooth drive gear. So, running the math, the 32 tooth drive gear is 7% larger, which should slow the speedometer down by 7%. I will post my results when the gear is installed and I have a chance to check my math.

Anywho, here are the Speedometer drive gear part numbers that my brother found:

28 tooth- 33403-39585 7% smaller than stock for my truck.

30 tooth- 33403-39365 stock installed in my truck.

31 tooth- 33403-39345 4% larger than stock in my truck.

32 tooth- 33403-39425 7% larger than stock in my truck.

33 tooth- 33403-39415 10% larger than stock in my truck.

The gears have their tooth count stamped on the end of the gear, so just remove the drive and check the tooth count.

To remove the gear, remove the snap ring and the gear slides out of the housing.

So, to correct this, the above part numbers are for the Tacoma only. I got the 32 tooth listed above, and the shaft was about 3/4 inch too short. I got with one of my parts guys here at work, and did a little more research, and ordered a 32 tooth drive gear and housing for a '90 3.0 4x4 pickup. I think the drive gear is the same as my truck, but just in case, I ordered the housing just to be sure. They will be here on Saturday, so I will keep this updated as I figure it out.

Got the truck out to go wheeling today. My brother, one of his co-workers, Cody, one of my co-workers, Josh, and our wives/girlfriends decided to get up and try running the Switzerland trail near sugarloaf mountain. We met up at my brothers dealership, then stopped off to grab some lunch to take up the mountain with us. We didn't get any pictures of the trail, but it was pretty well snow packed from our little storm Friday. By the time we got to the point where we couldn't make it any further, it was anywhere from 8 inches to over 2 feet deep. We realized we weren't on the Switzerland trail when we came to a dead end at a private property sign.

At the sign, we decided to back up about a hundred yards and eat lunch, do some target shooting, then head home. That's where the problems began. I was tail end, so I backed out and got turned around.

Next was Cody. He made it alright as well. When Josh tried turning around, he cut too early and dropped off the side of the trail and got himself stuck. Unfortunately, my brother had the only winch in the group, and he was facing the wrong way just ahead of Josh. We anchored the front of Josh's truck to a tree with two straps and a come along, then put tension on the rear with Cody's Tacoma.

That's my goofy on the left, Josh, the owner of the 4Runner in the middle, and my ginger giant little brother, 98_3RZ on the right.

To try and get a little traction, my brother jumped on the bumper, while Cody pulled and I kept tension on the front with the come along.

And as you can see, it worked. Next was Rob (98_3RZ) who ended up doing the exact same thing as Josh. His extraction was much less dramatic, as we just strung his winch out and pulled him forward again.

After a little lunch, and some target shooting, we headed down the mountain and our separate ways. My girlfriend and I decided to go up Four Mile Canyon to see how bad the flood and fire damage was. It was incredible. There were entire 100 yard sections of the road that had been washed out from one side of the canyon to the other, and many people were still in the process of tearing down damaged and destroyed homes from 6 months ago. We didn't take very many pictures, but this one speaks for how rough these people have it.

Over all it was a great trip. Can't wait to get out and do it again this summer.

And just some specs on the trucks:

My brother Rob (98_3RZ)-'00 Tacoma TRD elocked with a supercharged 3.4, ICON coil overs, OME Dakar rear springs, 33x12.50R15 Duratracs, ARB bumper and a badlands 12k winch.

Cody-'99 or '00 Tacoma 3.4, swapped Elocker, Aussie locked front, Toytec front spacer lift with blocks in the rear, 33x12.50R15 Duratracs.

Josh-'88 4Runner, BJ spacers, AAL, custom swing away tire carrier rear bumper.

So my speedomete gear finally got here today. I kept getting the run-a-round from my parts department on when it would make it in. I ordered an new sleeve and the gear so that if need be, I can just swap them out.

Install was as easy as you can imagine. Unscrew the cable, remove the retainer, pull the old out, and put the new in, with some lube on the o-ring and put it all back together.

Also, the wheeling trip this weekend put me at about 600 miles on the gear set, so I changed the fluid. Nothing out of the ordinary. Fluid looked about how it should for breakin.
