So I ordered the seats from Marlin on Sunday. Tuesday they shipped. Fed-ex and it was spendy. Supposedly they are going to get here NEXT friday. I think they are being shipped via Marlin Turtle!
Everything is cleaned up and ready to go. I've cleaned up the shifter boot covers (the vinyl or whatever that stuff is that sits over the rubber boots). There are a few holes in it, where the creases are. Can't find an aftermarket version and oe is ohmygoodness expensive. Thinking of just using a little vinyl repair stuff as the spots are fairly well hidden.
If anybody has any ideas as usual I would love to hear them.
Other than that I'm re-doing the gauges in the center console using junk around the house....

Fed Ex said Tuesday, next Friday, next Saturday, then Tuesday again, whew, what a roller coaster.
Got the center console ready to go back in, seats should take a few minutes. Got 2 more Toyota Trucks and Trails podcasts to listen to so I'll have to drag the work out.
Okay, less blabbing, more doing! Pics laters.

Got the electric cleaned up behind the center console in the dash,
changed the bulb color on the center console gauges,
made a new gauge holder out of junk,
added a 3 switch plate to the console,
moved the overhead light switch to one of those spots,
put in a daddy switch in another of those spots,
put the obd ii on/off switch in the last of those spots
got the new socket on the shifter and the new seats in.
Listened to all the Toyota Trucks and Trails podcasts I needed to catch up on. I found all of them to be interesting, got mentioned for a comment made, loved hearing about winch bumper considerations and have stored that info for further thought, always love hearing about Jason's 4Runner, had a lot of chuckles over the STLCA chat even though the audio on that one was terrible it was worth it. And more!
This vent was broken and floppy so I replaced one with a spare I had out of a 99+ bezel. They are the same as the earlier style.
The transfer case shifter seat had turned into tiny particles, the transmission shifter seat was just chipped in places. The tranmission shifter socket seemed fine until I put the new one on. It is much more firm.
The socket is easy, a screwdriver and hammer bumped the old one off, I set the new one on a rag and pressed the shifter down onto it.
The transmission shifter was hardest to get off, press down and turn counter-clockwise. It was also easiest to put back on, press down and turn clockwise. It was the opposite for the transfer case shifter, easy to release the snap ring and hard to replace it.
To put in the Marlin shifter seats clean everything out to bare aluminum, line up indents in top of seat after you turn it upside down with the posts in the shift lever housing then rotate and push down into place. Grease and add shifter. I believe the Toyota version simply requires you to squeeze to fit, but don't quote me on that.
White for the transmission, blue for the transfer case.
I used some black rtv for the places where the vinyl shifter boot has holes or where the material is thin and about to break from being bent back and forth. I put it on the inside of the boot, we'll see if it holds okay.

You can see I removed the transmission shifter housing. It's not necessary to replace the seat or socket, mine was full of dirt so I spent a bit of time cleaning it up and freeing up the 2 breathers. Didn't see an easy way to remove and extend them, so I didn't.
The shifter bushing will make a big difference. I have seen them paper thin. It looks the same as the older trucks. Glad to see Toyota kept some things the same. Looking good.

We managed to get the '89's rear bumper off while cooking a turkey. It took a lot longer than expected. Happy Thanksgiving!
That picture makes me twitchy too! Too many wires, too much clutter. I'm not meticulous like you or Terry, but I can agree it's a mess.
I don't know if the RTV will work yet, I put it on the inside rather than the outside, mostly to reinforce the weak spots. It'd look pretty bad outside, I think.
Glad to hear you got that poor bumper off, we're usually out in the woods on Thanksgiving but we were turned into grandparents yesterday so delayed the trip for a couple of days to visit the wee babby.

I had a Craigslist L-52 transmission I was happy to find. it seemed to shift ok but decided I would throw a new Marlin seat in there . I found a penny beat to crap that the PO bent to work as a seat somehow..

Hi Jason! Will confess, thought you were on the more westerly side of the state but double-checked anyway. Glad to see that's the case, not sure where in TN Chuckles is, either. Hopefully all is safe and well with everyone regarding the Gatlinburg mess.
The podcasts have been great fun, enjoyable to listen to. As far as my having any sort of speaking part......it would be a disaster. Speaking, especially publicly, is very difficult for me. Got too many things going on in the old noggin at the same time, forget what I'm saying, forget entire words, forget it. It's like the dogs in the Pixar movie Up, except everything going on inside my head is SQUIRREL! And all the stuff going on outside of my head is SQUIRREL! too. One day we'll speak and you'll understand, keeping me on track is like herding, well, squirrels. Understanding what I'm trying to say is a whole 'nother ball game entirely.
Not that I've got anything important to say, anyways. I still have so very much to learn.
Are you kidding? Despite all you've got going on you've gotten so much worked out and refreshed with the suspension on your truck, and that window I prolly shouldn't mention, and that front bumper, what I've seen of it, I really like a lot. Jealous of your or somebody's skills. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for your story on it. Remember, even if you really didn't promise, you promised!

You listen to us two buffoons ramble, like we ever know what we're talking about, you'd fit right in. Like it or not you give a lot to the community, I won't give you a hard time about not coming on the podcast so long as you at least hang around here to answer all my dumb questions.
