Wrecks have their benefits
Alright I've been posting this on T4R.org until now, I want as much assistance as possible. For reference, here's the link http://toyota-4runner.org/showthread...235#post229235
Basically, I got in a wreck a couple weeks ago where this girl cut me off causing me to smash into a car at 40mph. the only body damage was the front bumper, skid plate and shackle. Anywho, I got a check today for $1123.82 for damages and I'm buying an ARB bumper. If i can get enough help with this I will order it tonight.
Direct copy/paste from the t4r.org thread:
UPDATE.....WOOOO!!!
Alright this is badass. I just got back from progressive with a check for 1123.82. Now I am DEFINITELY getting the ARB that runner up has. I want to order this bumper right this second. I have a few questions.
1) The 'buy it now' ebay bumper has expired. Where else can I order one?
2) After I get the bumper are there any additional parts I need to buy to convert from the one I have now to the ARB?
3) What tools will I need to self install, and better yet, is there a writeup?
edit: Also, does anyone know a weight comparison between the bumper I have and the ARB?
Thanks for the help guys! Wooohoooo!

1) www.4by4connection.com and many other sites, jsut search for ARB bull bar.
2)No other parts required, all the bolts and everything come with the bumper.
3)Simple hand tools will be sufficient.
4)The front end wont sag with the bumper on there, it will be okay.

sweet thanks for the quick response. for the wiring and all, i'm assuming the only thing i have to worry about are the blinkers? If so would i just cut the wire and wire the arb into the pre-existing setup. I've never done anything like this, is there anything i'm overlooking?

nope thats it man, pretty straight foward. However on my turn signals, we cut connector off the original blinker and put it on the TJM lights b/c the TJM connectors were pretty cheep compared to the stock ones.

any difference with your 88 and my 97 in that respect? also, i don't know sheet about this so i'm pretty much winging it. could you explain that in lamensER terms, more like borderline vegetable terms haha sorry man just want to make sure i know everything i'm doing

on my 88 the connectors were round and clipped together. The ones that came with the bumper just wanted me to crimp the wire together, which meant i wouldnt have been able to seperate the wires. So we cut the connector end off the original blinkers and left some wire exposed so we could solder the wires onto the new blinker wires. Also put some heat shrink on them so the wires arent exposed. Basically your not messing with any wiring that is actually connected to the truck, but connected to the blinker.

I'm not sure if you have the limited model with the wide flares. I do, and I went with the prado bar. If i had the chance to do it again i'd go with the tacoma bar and just deal with the wide fender flares. The prado bar sits too high and too far back and i'm going to have to make some cuts and/or welds to the mounting brackets to get it to sit correctly. Dont get me wrong. It doesn't look bad at all. I like the width of it, but it will be a pain in the rear getting it perfect. Good luck with yours

i have the sr5 with the tiny black flares with chrome trim, i actually love em.if i'm going arb it will be the same one runner up has, the one for the tacomas. i'm getting some pm's about whether or not i thought about tjm. they're both relatively the same price so i can't go wrong. what's you guys' opinion?
and as for the insurance, it was the party at fault's insurance, progressive, who called me and said to come up to the local office. she told me i could have a check by the end of the night. clean cut, very simple, very nice woman i was completely surprised.
