Wrecked 2nd gen/possible 3rd gen purchase
Well, my '90 4runner was wrecked this week, but I already have a line on a '98 4runner. When did they rectify the V6 headgasket problems? If they were still having problems on the '98, I will pass on this one. Any other problems or things I should look out for on the 3rd gen? I'm totally new to the 3rd gen. Thanks.

No BHG problems with 3rd gens. I think the BHG's were with the 3.0 litre engine prior to 96. I bought mine new in 97 (98 model). 316k on the clock and still going strong.

If i were to give you one piece of advice, I'd say research exactly what you want (ie color, fender flares on a limited?, leather?, rr diff lock?, etc.. ) and search until you find something close. For example I have a 2000 limited which i love, but I wish i had an e-locker...
good luck!
good luck!

I have a 96, never heard of any HG issues on the 3.4L. I have 256kms (150K miles) still runs like a top.
Only other thing I have heard a few times is rear axle seals, mine went because the vent got plugged with dirt and couldn't let the air pressure escape from the rear axle and blew out the seals. If a person knew ahead of time and kept it clean should be good to go.
And as the others said, e-locker is a definite plus if you can find one.

Well, the '98 3rd gen fell through, but, I'm picking up a '94 Land Cruiser in pristine condition. This was always my dream Toyota SUV, I'm really stoked!
