i saw your truck on ebay...its pretty. but a stock runner appeals to the masses right now with the economy and gas prices....etc. for some reason the trucks are fetching big big bucks, but the runners are not. i was thinking of getting rid of my truck and bronco, and just getting a nice ext cab tacoma, but i can freshen up the motor in my 93 truck, and still get a 97-98 runner for about 5 grand. 5 grand wont really buy you much of a nice truck at all.

I'd suggest return it to stock and let the scavenging begin here on YT. Because no matter how hard you try to sell on the money spent part or reduced half in two years whatever. You gotta look at the market value, a 97 Runner is worth about 5k, period. Realistically hat's what ppl are looking after.

Yep, clean stockers always sell quicker and often for more than modded rigs.
Hey, how about these owners. Each is about to take a $40,000+ bath: http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/795142389.html http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/795845020.html

I work in the insurance industry and we are seeing a trend in the value of used vehicles. SUV's are losing value the the 4 cylinder foreign cars are increasing in value. I'm in the same boat. I have modd'd out a 2000 4runner LTD. There is no way I will sell it if for what I have into it. I bought it used 5 yrs ago for $20k and I have dumped another $5k into it. I enjoy driving it and have come to realize it is the opposite of an investment. It's a toy, money pit, luxury. I'm not going to sell it. I will run it into the ground. I am going to take the next $2k I can save and buy a used Nissan sentra or Toyota corrolla as my daily driver. My 4runner is getting about 15 mpg. OUCH!!!
you have a sweet ride- I wouldn't sell it. I would pay your asking price if I was in the market. You need to find the right butt for the right seat. Some nut like me will pay your price and you'll both be happy. Last edited by camp1 : 08-14-2008 at 08:15 AM. |

Let's say insurance will run you an additional $40 per month for the Corolla, and maintenance about $25 per month on average, another $5-10 for inspection and misc fees. Say the Corolla will last you 7 more years, with a residual value by that time of $250, add roughly another $20 a month. Subtract about $20 also for less maintenance and mileage depreciation on the 4Runner. In BEST case given that NOTHING breaks total savings of $30 per month to drive in a $2k Corolla ![]()

I am with camp1 if I was in the market I would buy yours in a heartbeat.
You have done lots of nice work on the ride and do not settle for less and start to break it all up. (Unless all your labor was free and still is....) Tulsa folks went crazy when I went down there at Christmas-they had ice storms just before and just after. Tulsa has cheapest gas in the country now at $3.50 a gallon. List craigslist here (Denver) for example and see how many of us are out here looking. But I think a buyer is out there for you. Patience, patience, and then more. My 2nd gen took 4 months to sell and they are more "trucklike" than the 3rd gens. I hope you do not start to part it out to stock, but I love that rear bumper....

Thanks fr all of the advice everyone. I guess I am in no real hurry to sale it. I can afford to sit on it for awhile, who knows maybe the right person will come along. I have had some really sweet trade offers here lately. It is just hard to imagine driving something else.

No cars are selling at what they are worth right now. We own a used car lot, had a 99 4Runner Limited, S/C'd with LOW miles, and not a thing wrong with it, and had to sacrifice it for 8900.
I wouldn't feel bad if I were you, just gotta find the person who is looking for what you're selling. We had a Taco on the lot for 4 months, beautiful, ARB Bumper, winch the whole 9 yards and people were looking to pay 6k for it (It sold to someone who knew what they were looking at, for 11k) Just keep on truckin' - you'll sell it!

Dude ........I hear your anguish!
I started a thread 2 weeks ago where my buddies museum mint 01 leather limited runner is worth 12,300 on KBB !!!!!!!!!! with 60,000 ! Keep it and live on.............. My home ........worth 100,000 less than it was 4 yrs ago My next refy will put me in Mortgage insurance again !! RIPOFF!!!!!!! My IRA is worth less than what I paid into it. My runner is worth less than half of what I paid for it. All I can say is that hopefully everyone OWNS their toys otherwise there's alot of upside down action in our country! Kenny S> |

i just bought a 98 4runner, like 15 minutes ago. 3899.00. 137,000 miles with a 5 speed. couldnt touch the same in a truck for under 8k. its kinda crazy. you guys complain about gas mileage in your 4runners......i have a full size bronco sitting in my driveway(rusting) cause its just to expensive to drive it. it gets maybe 10 around town, and 14 on the highway if i dont go up any hills. cant wait to see what i get for that vehicle.

I revisited you pictures and dang that is a beautiful ride.
Did not even notice the Bushwacker fender flares until now, those look gorgeous. I believe those are the Extend a fenders? I hope you know and are using all the forums: T4R.org for Runners and TTORA for Tacoma guys 4x4wire, IH8MUD, pirate4x4. I am likely forgetting many others.Ask all your buds. I am not aware of 4wheeling hotspots near you, but post your ad in the waiting rooms of the parts supply houses, or repair shops, there will be someone who will call you in a heartbeat when they see the pics. Perhaps the nearby Toyota dealerships will have a waiting room and bulletin board you could post up on. Keep your head up sir. Follow up on your leads that have already contacted you. No need to dicker on price -you have way too much into it for someone to start lowballing it. It always seems "darkest" right before that buyer contacts you-so increase your odds by pursuing the buyers. For example last weekend here in Denver was the Rising Sun Rally-Yota lovers from near and far get together to swap parts and tales of false bravado on the trails. There may be a club near you-check the Landcruiser Assoc. and get a copy of the mag "Toyota Trails". Target those guys in the bigger, thirstier Cruisers who perhaps are now ready to admit the supremacy of the Runner . Go after the full size Bronco crowd-the full size GMC crowd-they are not all Yota haters as per ssupercools above. Print up a flyer and hit the other RUnners and Tacoma guys parked at the ball game-the mall-etc. Try a Mustang or Eclipse or Prelude sporty car forum- those guys need a tow rig occasionally. Perhaps they want a tow rig more beautiful than their racer/ricer. Damn fine ride and I am simply focusing on the looks, the mechanicals will sway someone else. Best of luck - your buyer is out there looking for your ride now, they just have not run across you. People will travel for the right ride even now.

If gas mileage is that big of a concern for you look into the 3.4 superchargers. I was getting about 20 with my runner before i got it and now around town im pushing 28. the supercharger is the best upgrade i have done and ever will do to my yoat goat
