Would you trade your 4runner for this
I love my 4runner but if someone would trade me my 4runner for one of these I might take them up on this. This truck is sick. They are going to be available in 2004 and the base price is 17k all the accessories like the snorkel and bull bar come with it. I am amazed that a company is finally making a truck out of a factory with all the goodies. It has a Turbo diesel engine, 135hp, and 335lb ft og torque. The only negative i could find is that it is made by some south american company and it looks like a bad Land rover defender wannabe.

yeah, it comes with ALL the goodies. Inculding IFS
who makes lift kits for them???
are the axles they use even worth a ˟˟˟˟???
Great now every off-road wannabe poseur can run down to their local south american drug cartel sponsored bad remake of a land rover defender dealer and buy their very own POS. Yeah, I'll stick with my 4Runner...

Not a bad looking rig, but yeah, they should have gone all out with solid axle, lockers, on-board air. Then we'd be talking! Heh-heh!

i do believe i would rather have horn on the steering wheel, so i am not hitting in along with the turn signals.
and ifs is not always a bad thing, if properly designed. look at randy ellis. and what i want to do.
but for now, i will too keep my SFA.

I considered this when buying my Tacoma. I really like the concept, especially with diesel power. I decided to wait as the dealer network is still being developed, and to let some other people be guinia pigs.
A 3rd gen or Tacoma is as comfortable/tech advanced as I want my truck. The 4th gen was way to soft for me. I'd like to see some other manufacturers bring over some basic 4x4's.

The only engine available for the 2003 release is a Ford 4L V6 GAS engine. The diesel wouldn't pass emissions.
Also, it's a SA remake of an Eastern European 4x4 known as the ARO.

Greetings Last I heard this truck was coming in mid fall and would NOT have the diesel. Epa and other Govt agencies said the motor was to dirty for our air standards. The company is reworking the diesel and moving ahead with a gas engine to get the truck on the market. The closest dealer to me is in Cheyenne Wyoming a hour and a half away. Most of the pictures show the truck with every option, the base truck is a super low buck plain jane looking thing.
The diesel is suposed to be a Navstar design but not related to the powerstroke ford motor. Remember when reading the stats they are in metric format and have to be converted to US. The diesel only has 135 horse, if I remember correctly, and 350 ft pounds of torque. All in All fully dressed with all of the bells and whistles this truck looks cool.

If I wanted something really
hard core, I'd probably go with
an Iron Pig. I dont think its that
bad but the name "Crosslander"
just doesnt sit well with me, and
as for comparing it to a toy,
I dont know about that.
But all in all I think if I had around
$17k to spare I would much rather
get a coma or mebbe put a down
payment on a 4th gen runner

the gripes i have with the new fj40 prototype is that it has IFS(a sin for a fj40) and an automatic tranny
i think the crosslander is a step in the right direction, but it's not attractive to me if it has IFS. at least you can buy a stripped down model with almost no options, for cheap. toyota used to do this(remember their 1st and 2nd gen pickups? if you didn't have options there were still empty holes in the dash. my '79 has a slot that says "AIR CONDITIONING" even though there was never any with the truck)
