Work Truck Suspension Suggestions.. 95.5
I’ve got 95.5 Tacoma 4x4 that that I’ve owned a while now.. About 8-9 years ago I put on Bilstein 5100’s with an add-a-leaf in the rear, and Old Man Emu N91s shocks and coils up front. This added about 2.5 inches of lift at the time, a lot of which has sagged/ settled out. These days the truck is strictly a work vehicle and has a custom steel ladder/lumber rack with steel tool boxes mounted on either side of the bed, all of which was added a handful of years ago. I don’t typically haul much weight in it, but the weight of the rack+boxes+tools combined with the raised center of gravity, and probably somewhat worn suspension, makes me want to improve its handling a bit if possible..
The truck now has a good amount of sway/body-roll and what feels like a back and forth sway to it (mainly on slow speed turns or quickish lane change, if I dare) as if the shocks were bad. However, I just had the Bilsteins off the rear to check them out, and surprisingly they still feel pretty good. Good compression and rebound dampening on both, although one does extend a bit quicker the other.. I havn’t had the front struts apart yet to check dampening but there is no visible oil leaks.
So I’ll finally try and get to a point.. I’m try to get the truck handle a little better for everyday driving and eliminate some of the back and forth rock I can feel (from what seem like the rear primarily) What would you all recommend? Is there a stiffer rear shock option out there, and would that help? Or do I need beefier leaf packs? Something else? Also, for the front, are the O.M.E. shocks probably still good? Or should I look into replacing them too? If so with what, new OMEs?
All comments/suggestions welcome, Thanks !
