Wiring Question - Fog Lights and Parking Lights

If I have already tapped into the parking lights for my gauges, is it a good idea to tap into them for my fog lights? Or should I tap into the headlights?

I've got a 3rd gen, but me and my buddy couldn't figure out how to jack in to the existing fog light wiring, so I just need an alternative.

I have just installed aftermarket foglight on my truck. Since it was already pre-wired, I've decided to use it. First thing I had to buy was the relay (If you look in your fuse box you'll notice it's missing) Then I had to get the switch for the headlights, which includes a switch for foglights (the turn-signal switch).
This is the stock toyota switch with turns the foglights on only when the driving lights are on. (This can be overridden - my next little project)
Just my $0.02.

Where can you get the lights that fit into the existing holes? I have an 00 without the lights, but it looks like the wire and connectors are sitting tere ready to be connected?

Is there an aftermarket supplier that sells them so that they look stock?

I have not searched anywhere else, but up here in Canada they are available at Canadian Tire. Check out this link:

http://gateway.canadiantire.ca/drive...5524441888955_

The diameter of the glass piece is almost the same as the diameter of the opening in the lower portion of the bumper.
I had to make my own brackets to get them in the correctly.
Hope this helps,
Mariusz

I'm in Canada as well, NB, so did you use the wiring that was on the truck, or run new wiring? What did you use for mounting brackets?

Thanks

I got mine here, came with mounting brackets, relay, and a switch that fits perfectly in a valence. I just can't figure out how to tap into the factory wiring.

Nobody thinks that would be drawing too much power from one source?

It was about 2 years ago, but I think this is where I bought mine:

Mbeck,
I have used the existing wiring. As for the brackets... I made my own.

i wired the switch to my driving lamps directly to the cig lighter so the lights cant be left on, yet i can still turn them on/off whenever i feel like. instead of tieing them into the low-beam circuit like the VA lawbook says.

of course i just failed inspection b/c one of my covers broke in 1/2 at the inspection station. "it's not worth losing my license because of this" is what he said. i would have been happy to disable the lights or duct tape some cardboard over the light to satisfy him, but he wasn't having it.

I have an '02 SR5 - the last of the great 3rd gens, and in process of installing factory fogs. You guys have a good forum and I think I have learned how to do it, I'll bank the $360 the Toy dealer wanted for the install. As I have the oem fogs, do I need only the relay for the fuse box and the stalk with the fog switch on it ? No additional wiring ? It can't be that easy ! BTW, is driving around with the rear window open just about the coolest thing ? And don't get me started on the down window button on the remote !

I can't recall where I bought mine (online) from (may have been Conicelli Toyota...) for my '00 SR5, but the installation was easy. It was a kit made for the pre-wired SR5 and came with a rocker switch for the dash, brackets, wire splices and very detailed, step-by-step instructions. I suppose the hardest part was removal of the steering column cover and locating the correct wires to tap into. They are Hella Micro DE's with brackets specific to the particular model year 4Runner. I've since replaced the H3 bulbs with Yellowstars which are a definite improvement in very dense fog (which I seem to drive through often in the wee mornings). Per the instructions, they only work with the headlights on low beam. But it's not too hard to modify the wiring to allow operation when only the parking lights are on.

You should be able to find various Toyota parts websites that list them.

shouldnt be as long as you are tapping this to energize your relay, not to power it. Now if you are using it to power your relay you may be drawing too much--- dont know for sure
