Window Tint Percentage On 3rd Gens
Im thinking of tinting the front windows this weekend for my 3rd Limited, but what is the exact percentage of the factory tint. Has anybody tinted the front windows on their 3rd gens, and if so you have any pics?
Thanks

I have these two pics of mine. I think the fronts are matched to the back. Not sure what percent it is but i highly recommend you do this.
I'm pretty sure the leagal limit for most states is 35% which isnt dark at all. Im guessing that the back seat windows on 4runners are between 15 and 20.http://www.pbase.com/ssbogger/4runner

tint'n it
people go for tints that are 35% or darker -- depending on their state laws revolving around tint/vehicle inspections, etc.
whenever you bring this topic up, some folks will tell you of their limo tint, and others will bring up stories of cops stripping their tint on the side of the road...
my advice = go for at least 35%
If you're any lighter than that, just save your money and let some road grime build up on your windows for the same "tint" effect.
15% is VERY drivable, even @ night and it creates a privacy feel. you have to get up close to see in (while looking out is no problem).
5% is drivable to me..though you may have some issues reversing and making turns in areas that are not well lit at night. daytime driving is a piece of cake, and I'm not in the brightest area. Even in winter and fall here in the northwest, i haven't had any probs w/ daylight driving. Back in Hawaii, 5% was de regular
and just for the hell of it, i tinted the windshield. i had 50% on the windshield of my other car, but went for 35% on the 4runner I like it.

I went with 50%. That gives a nice blend without getting me pulled over by police. Here, you can't have ANY tint on the fronts, but you can get away with this...

Del: just what I was wondering... here's what I'm assuming:
50% - "are you sure they're tinted?"
35% - for the law abiding citizen
5% - #$%&* dark!
Now for the big question... what sort of establisments will apply these darker tints for your strictly 'show' vehicle?
Certainly not "Tint-A-Car" franchises or something
Dave.

You can definitely tell they are tinted with 50%, but it's doesn't stick out like a fully tinted limo. In my area, I can't fully black it out due to peskly laws.
If you have these laws in your area, 50% would be safe. If no laws, go black.

i had 20 put on the front and it didn't match the factory tint, since i am a perfectionist and i didn't like the slight difference I had limo put on top of the 20% and on top of the factory tint. And my rear window is factory plus two layers of limo tint. It is a pain at night when backing up(but i just roll down the window), and there is privacy and my equipment will not get stolen. cops in cincinnati haven't given me any grief about it either *knock on wood*

Ive got 5% limo all the way around. Ive been pulled over twice for speeding and the cops (FHP both times) never said anything about it. Now I keep my speed under control on long trips with the cruisecontrol.
I think if the cops are not being anal about the tint laws in your area, you'd be fine with 5% or so provided you dont drive aggressively and draw attention to yourself. If you drive agressively, go with the lighter tint.....

I live in CO and got busted a few weeks ago with 15%, I got busted in Utah , 2 miles over the state line on I-70 going to Moab.
He let me know that 30% is max for both Utah and CO.
Go to a tint specialist, there are many ways to get a desired matching look. Sometimes you can use a lower weight film with more metal in it to get the match.....

I have 20% on my front two windows and 5% over factory on the rest of my back windows. I hve been bothered once for my front windows but it was a local cop who are notoriously known for messing with teenagers. Either 15% or 20% is probably your best bet and will not inhibit your vision in day or night.

Vato, I am going to be doing the exact same thing. From this posting I believe 15% is the way to go. Please let us know how it goes.
Pictureswould be great also.

I just had my truck's window's tinted. 15% on the door windows, and 5% around the extra-cab windows and back window. It's dark, but that's what I wanted as I don't want people looking in and seeing my sound system. The guy who did it suggested 15% and 5% so it would look more matched, and he used Lumar tint which has a lifetime warranty. I'm very happy with it, my only shortcoming I've noticed so far is that I have to be extra careful backing up at night... but I should be anyway, right?
