Window Switches

I have a 97 Limited 4Runner (wood grain) and recently bought used 99? regular black switches, they work. I'm redoing the inside and don't want the wood stuff anymore.

My problem is, the pass. side works fine, but the drivers side is causing me problems. I had to modiy the main plug so the 97 plug would fit (cut a small piece of plastic out) and the only thing that works is the mirror switch. Anyone know why this is happening? I was told they work and bought them from a reputable person.

Thanks
Bob

did you do the legwork to make sure the plugs and their respective pins are identical? if you had to cut a plug to make it work, i'm betting they were not identical, and possibly re-wired in '99.

cross reference the electrical diagrams to make sure you don't have to switch wires around to different pins.

i would have guessed they're identical, though...

You cannot use a 99 switch without rewiring your door. 99 used an auto up/auto down feature, that required an additional plug. Add on to that, the plug in AND internal workings of the switch are NOT the same after 1997, AND the door lock switch is a different size.

You will need a switch from a 96-97 4Runner. Those are the ONLY switches that will work in your 4Runner. That 99 is useless.

The reason the mirror switch does work, is because its on a seperate circuit and different plug from the main switch. The mirror switch works 96-02.

Talk to the "reputable" person you ordered the switch from, and have them get you the correct switch, or refund your money.
