Will the stealership madness ever stop!!!?
So I need to replace the bulbs behind the heater controls and have read and searched for all there is on the subject. i know that it is a very simple job. I call the dealer to find out what size the bulbs are, so as to then call around to local part shops to see if they have them in stock. The parts dept. tells me there actually is no removable bulb and that it is fused to the switch....that the only way to replace it is to replace the whole switch. what a crock. when will they realize that not all people who work on theirs rigs are merely monkeys with wrenches. I say thank you very much and hang up.
--_-End Rant-_--
BTW, does anyone know if the ash tray bulb will fit in behind the HVAC controls. I think I read that the glove box bulb will fit, but I like having the light there, otherwise I'll pull that one. But seeing as how I now have my cb in the ash tray , there is no more need for a lite there.
Also that 'double-lock' super duty velcro stuff from radio schmack is freakin awsome.

Actually:
Some of the bulbs are part of switches. For instance: on my 2000, the cig lighter bulb is part of the whole retaining clip. You can't just change the bulb on it...

I have a 90 runner. I had th edash pulled apart last week to find that the glovebox, ash tray, cig liter and hvac conotrols all have removable bulbs. I think the only one I could see that was all inclusive was the a/c switch, which pulled out as one piece from the dash, that was kinda wierd.

Please post the bulb specs when you get them. I need to replace some on mine as well and I'm too lazy to find the specs for myself.

Ya just take the bulbs to the dealer. They cost like .79 cents each. I've been through a couple of them. Cant remember if the glove box or cig lighter bulbs are the same as the HVAC one. They are super simple to pull out though so just check em.

$0.79!!!! I payed like $4 from my stupid @ss stealership!! Grrr, it took them 30 minutes to decide that the bulb was a dash cluster bulb. They are all the same in my 87', it's just that the parts computers (since the parts guys don't know jack themselves) didn't have them listed for the HVAC pannel.
I won't go to the stealership ever agian for those bulbs, there's a place online that carries them. I'll try to find it again.

As it turns out, all those bulbs are interchangeable. I went to my local B&B and picked up a set of two bulbs, sylvania #2721 1.2 watt. These are the exact fit bulb. Also there are the same size but higher wattage, like 2.3w I think. Simple to replace. Kinda funny, the guy I was talkingto at the store works days at the local dealer and nights at that auto store. Friggin awsome if you ask me. LOL.
