Will a 15" wheel fit on a 98 Limited

I have a 98 Limited with 16" wheels. Someone stole the spare and I wondered if the Toyota 15" 4Runner wheel will fit on my model. I'm buying from overseas so don't have option of trying it out on the truck

I'm gonna have to say no, it won't clear the calipers, some 16" aftermarket wheels don't even clear, so I really doubt a 15" wheel would

if you have VSC then definitely a no-no. if you don't then there are some (such as the Wheelers off Road wheels) that will fit being a 15" rim. You can pick up the wheelers rim for $43.00 a wheel (black steel)
Other than that, I dont know, I dont think the factory yota 15's will fit on your runner. Why not buy a factory 16" rim?

heres a link to the wheelers wheels, BTW - http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/4runnerwheels.htm

Thanks,
So the Limited has "beefed-up" brakes over other models?

not neccesarily, almost any runner and/or Tacoma from this time period that came equipped with 16" wheels did so because of the size of the calipers...Its stock for all of our trucks, they were just bigger... a lot of people will tell you to grtind the back of the calipers to make the 15"s fit, but this is a horrible idea. The fluid passages are very near the exterior of the calipers, and are prone to leaking or bursting open if you grind the outside...

What is VSC?

Avoiding dealer if I can, as I pay 60% duty on parts and shipping. A 16" steel wheel is over $200

VSC is some sort of stability control system, Variable System control or some such thing, I suppose.... i've never seen a Tacoma with it, but I hear a lot of runners have it, and probably your Limited does...
Maybe not. I dont know. You could probably check your Owners Manual, or in worse case scenario, call the dealer with your VIn and ask them. lol.

Measure your rotors to see if you have the bigger brake package. If they're
12.5", then you have the bigger brakes and 15's won't fit.

VSC is Vehicle Skid Control. Is senses if the wheels are not spinning at the same speed and cuts power to the motor untill they are under control. This is great except when you are getting stuck and you need to power your way out of a slippery spot.

will not fit on front. will fit on back. If you only need it for a spare, you can make it work. If you get a flat up front, move a good rear tire to the front and put the spare on back. Bit of a pain in the ass, but doable.
I have a set of 4 16" rims for sale. (see pic to left)

Your '98 will not have VSC. VSC was introduced in '99

All limited's came with the big brakes. All rigs with 265/70/16's had big brakes.

You're right, measured the diameter last night.

Just a thought, I know some european manufacturers share wheel types -offset, lug pattern etc. Wondered if Japanese manufacturers do likewise?
I read somewhere in the past that Toyota and Mitsibushi are compatible with one another? Not many Toyotas in the junkyards here, but Nissan, Honda et all, are a plenty.
Does anyone know?
Thanks to all who chimed in.
