Wierd tire size?
OK, So while looking for my axle code, I noticed that the sticker on my driver's side door jamb mentions 225/75/15 sized tires.
First off its a 97 4Runner SR5 4X4. It currently has 265/75/16. Could my vehicle have origianally came with those TINY tires?

i believe those are factory specs for v4 4runners without any options. late models came with a lot of stardard features and bigger tires and rims were options in the past??? anyone correct me if im wrong

I believe they all have both sizes listed, as mine lists the 225's on there as well. Probably so they only have to print one type of label. Yours conceivably could have came with 225's, but not likely. You'd have to check you're gearing to confirm, as that is what Vato is getting at.

My truck has never seemed fast by any means. But I seriously dont think it is that under-powered/geared. Most every number on that sticker is damaged, so I can't tell what my gearing is. Maybe the dealer can pull it up via my VIN.
Maybe somebody else can check their sticker. I really dont see the point of having the tire pressures for that sized tire if my car didn't come with them.
Carfax definately says I have an SR5 with a 3.4 so even a girl or guy with a lot of time and money didn't convert it from a base model.

BTW, it mentions the small tire size twice. Not one mention of anything larger.
The previous(first) owner left his registration in the car, so maybe i'll contact him and ask whats what.

my 97 v6 had 265/70- 16 tires when i bought it. The door sticker says it came the 225 tires on 15 inch rims. I think the 16 rims and bigger tires were put on as a dealer option. i now have 285/75 tires so it doesnt matter anyways

but on my tacoma, my plate had 31x10.50R15 but then again it was a V6 out of the door. i don't remember seeing too many 1999 v6 tacos on anything smaller than a 31x10.50R15.

The vehicles with big tire packages had special axle ratios. You would think if they can list that on the door jam, they can also list the proper tire size. The speedometer, axle ratio and tire size have te be decided at the same time to make it all work.
