Wierd noise and vibe
My mother drove the truck yesterday and i am hearing some wierd noise now... Driving at low speeds of 10 mph or lower i hear a squeaky sound and can feel a vibration in the floor when the sound happens. The sound is not present when driving at higher speeds... But driving in the parkinglot today i thought something was going to fall off. The sound is kind of squeaky kind of grindy. I have an 87 pickup... I knew something would go wrong.. i just had the major transfluid leak repaired and now this pops up..... I think i am also in dire need of a tune up too!

Just tell her she wrecked it!(probably offroad!) Have you crawled under the truck to look at everything?

Yep... been under the truck looking and everything looks normal... and believe me... Loan is not the word.. it's more like "I paid for your ^&$^ truck you better let me use it whenever i want to!!!!"

Make sure it's not something simple like a squeeky speedometer cable. I've had a couple of Toyota's with this problem. Freaked me when I first heard it.

It is kind of a whiny squeak... it is only when cruise... When i hit the gas it seems to disappear and also when braking it is gone... But if i am just going down the road with my foot off the gas i hear it and feel a vibration to accompany it in the floorboard... I have been have tranny problems with the thing not shifting at the right points (automatic).

I'm no expert, so if someone else is, please chime in but it might be a good time to change the tranny filter. It's not too expensive and when you do it, make sure and look for and metal shavings or peices attached to the magnets at the bottom of the pan. If you have any metal at all down there, get to the transmission shop ASAP. I just bought a tranny filter for my '91 and it was $18 with gasket. The job took about 45 minutes total and just about anyone can do it.

Any articles for information on doing that? I know i would have to drain the transmission and drop the pan but after that it would be helpful to have an article to refer to.

It's pretty easy to do yourself. If you've never done it, consult a Chilton's manual or a Haynes manual. The pan just drop's down, you don't really need to drain anything and then you can fill it with the dipstick tube and a narrow, CLEAN, funnel. I recommend a funnell you are going to use specifically for ATF. The guy at the Auto parts store recommended Valvoline Maxlife, but if you drive it off-road with a heavy foot a lot you might consider a synthetic like Redline..it's good stuff. I recommend you buy about 6 quarts and return whatever is leftover.
Like I said before, I'm no expert, in fact I've only done this once before. So if I'm giving bad advice somebody please chime in here.
BTW, I just bought a chilton's manual the other day and I like it much better than my Haynes manual. Good luck.

Yea i do need a good manual and all.... thanks for the advice hopefully that will fix anything that is going wrong with it... hopefully
