Is a wider Rear axle worth it?
Okay I have a 85 Extra cab with 4.88 and a Arb rear locker. I have a 89 4runner parted out with the rear axle stock. Is it worth swapping the rear axles? Will the thirds swap easily? will i have to go with spacers in the front? Will the wider rear actually be better or make that much of a difference? I need to know so i can save it or send it to the juck yard.
Thanks

however, you're gonna need to get spring plates from the later axle or do a u-bolt flip -- the tubes are bigger so your spring plates probably wont work. also, you'll have to extend the e-brake cable in the rear.

since it's a 1985 the 89 4runner axle is going into you just have to use the 89 4runner spring plates. 85 and 89's both have the shocks mounted to the side of the frame rail.
i just egged the holes out a little on my 81 and 82 truck to get the bigger ubolts to work. it's been that way for 5 years on each without a problem.

I have the whole truck so i can take from it what i need and will someday be doing rear disc bracks so the e brake cam be jimmied.
I was thinking of just welding the springs to the axle and then duct tape over it to make sure it would stay.
