I am getting some white neon lights to go all the way around the underside of my 87 runner.I figured they would help at night,on or off the trail.If I get a flat tire or break another shock or something.It's nice because you won't be able to see them when they're off.Has anybody else done this?

I havent seen any personally with whites, but I have thought of doing a similar thing but on the inside. I cant see anything at night with my stock dome lights so I am thinking about putting some on the back and/or the rear doors.

get yourself a power inverter and you can use the rope light all around the headliner in the back. when i drove limo years back the rear passenger compartment had them, provided a nice indirect lighting. you cant read using them but they are bright enough that you will be able to light the interior evenly.

I haven't investigated too fully but I would be weary of a rock breaking the tube then your screw'd... not to mention the fact that they don't put out too much light. Even cars that are a few inches off the ground they aren't THAT bright. Imagine them two feet off the ground? Then you have to worry about mud and stuff. These lights were made for the street not off-road applications. They could most certinly work but I personally would do a "rock light" setup with a few tractor lights around the truck. Ive been snooping around at various places looking for alternatives to the rocklights thing. I'll be sure and post whatever I find.... I want to add them not only for wheeling/wrenching at night but I also want to add them to my alarm as a switchable "permimeter lighting" that the newer cars are coming with. I thought about having them come on automaticly with the interior light but then they would be on even during the day and after that it just gets a little complicated. Do able but I don't have the time or effort to do that so I'd just use one of the switchable outputs on my alarm to trip a relay to turn them on manually instead of them coming on every time you open the door.
