Whining sound from rear end somewhere at all speeds - any ideas?

I am starting to notice a higher pitch whine on the highway that is not super loud, but noticeable - especially at 60-64. I wonder if it is a bearing or something, but I hope not the rear end.. I wish you could hear it. It is an 02 with 115K on it. Any ideas? Thanks

There's a fill plug and a drain plug. Take the fill plug out (upper) and stick your pinky in there and see if the fluid's up to the top. It should be on level ground too. Look at your rear brakes again and make sure you didn't blow the axle seal again.

i agree with brian2sun u should take the plug out and stick your pinky in there to see if the fluid's up to the top because if they're aint no fluid thats why it makes the noise that sounds like wining.

Also, If you keep blowing axle seals, it's most likely your differential breather that is clogged.

Is it vibrating too or just whining?

Check the driveline (the u-joints actually) for play up and down and side to side. Should be very little to no movement. Just grab the whole thing and try to move it around. A little clockwise/c.c. wise motion of the driveline is normal (it's just your gears' teeth moving between eachother).

When was the last time you've greased your driveline?

You didn't get new gears recently, right?

I have what appears to be the same whine/noise. I have also checked fluid in the rear diff and t-case, also greased the drivelive, with no improvement. I even went to the dealer and had a tech ride with me. He agreed there was a noise but couldn't recommend service. Said it may be in the transfer case, but until somthing breaks it dosn't make sense to tear it down and look. I'll keep an eye on this thread but I'm just rolling with the whineing noise for now. We'll see. I suspect a bad bearing in the t-case, IDK?
